Does the Touratech rectifier cover actually achieve anything [1]?

Utterly pointless waste of money IMO. Achieves absolutely nothing. The reg/rec unit is already protected by a hoofing great steel plate. It doesn't even offer any additional protection for the connector from road spray and muck, which might have been the only use for such a thing.

Unnecessary bling as far as I can see. A quick inspection will show that there is already a solid plate already doing this job. Save your money for fuel and ferry tickets.
