What oil is everyone using?
I use the ebay special, silkolene
Comes with a k&n filter for 30. Im guessing oil is oil and the bike wont really perform any better or worse with brands?

Motul 5100. Exactly the same stuff as the Yammalube the dealer would use, but cheaper!
Available here with free UK delivery (but probably not the Highlands 'n' Islands though!) Silkolene is fine also. |

Good topic!! I have always used Castrol or Yamalube in the past and I had been told that Yamalube is Motul- I recently discovered BARDAHL which is expensive and said to be the best, costs 15E per litre compared to 10 to 12 for Castrol. Is the difference worth it, well comments please cos I dont know!!!!!

I go to my local bike workshop who fills my empty containers with oil from his HUGE barrel. It's 10/40 semi-synth. 5 a litre but I usually come away with about 25% extra as the measure is at best vague.
It's what he puts in most bikes for a service so if it's good enough for his reputation it's good enough for me. Between me, my wife and two sons we have probably done over 50,000miles on this oil. No problems so far. Sent from my iPhone with a smile |

So what is the difference between Motul 5000 and 5100?

5100 contains compound-esters in the blend. These are vegetable-based (derived from ethanol or phenol) compounds giving improved lubricating properties, better anti-shear qualities, a greater film strength, plus a much greater resistance to high temperatures (5100 has a slightly higher viscosity at temperatures over 100C).
In a nut shell - Motul 5100 is a slightly higher spec oil. |
