DNA oil alternative

Hi,
Quick question. I'm in the middle of Kazakhstan (Kyzylorda), and due to very dusty conditions (not many tarmac roads), I had to clean my DNA filter. And here is my question. I have only two kinds of oil: 10W-40, and 80W-90. Which one would be better for re-oiling the filter? I reckon the thicker one, or? Thanks in advance for help. Cheers, Greg

The 80W90 will do nicely, if that isn't available regular engine oil (10w40/20w50 or similar) is always better than nothing and usually it is sufficient.

Thanks man. I have a bottle of 80W for my chain oiler. Just waiting till the filter is dry, and then will apply the oil. Cheers Greg

I have cleaned the filter and used the 80W oil afterwards. The fuel consumption is back to normal.

one more question concerning the DNA filter. Can I wash with gas, like the foam filter, or should I stick to the water and soap? Thanks, Greg

I'd use 80w also as IMO it'd take longer to gravity drip down? Not sure about rinsing with petrol. The industry has gone all green and 'use our special product' (at a cost)to clean. I have just replaced my foam filter with an Off The Road filter due to the fact I can rinse with petrol and carry an aerosol of of castrol foam air filter oil.

My Pipercross filter when rinsed with petrol broke apart and I had to re-glue it every time it was dry....live and learn eh? Before you clean I'd make sure there was glue just in case it does the same....??

PS Are you compiling a ride report by chance and if so where can it be found? All the best in your travels.
