Immobilized?
Today i tried to start my bike but it never really fired up. Moved the bike around, shook it a bit, held it upright, stand down/up, kill switch on/off, tried again, still no go. Rolled it down a hill and put it in gear, no luck.
I noticed the dash was flashing red. Is it supposed to do that when you have the key in and ignition on? A while later I rolled it down a hill and put her in gear and voila! It runs! Any ideas what's going on? Is this something I can expect to happen more? Edit: if someone has a clever idea on how to fix a clutch cable that has broken off right next to the ball in the lever I am all ears |

Update
Ok, so yesterday my clutch cable snapped off. Called road service who said they'd pick me and my bike up the next day. Today 07:00 they picked me up and drove me a few hours away to a shop that had a nice owner to come out on a Sunday to help with the clutch cable. That was fixed in a matter of minutes. Ready for my 5 hour drive back home from Sweden, the bike wouldn't start again! Red key LED in the dash flashes and the fuel pump doesn't start when turning the key. The owner called all his mechanics and no one had any ideas apart from using the red key... which was back home in Norway. After turning the ignition off a few hundred times (not exaggerating) the red LED didn't flash and the fuel pump started up! WOHOO! Pressed the starter - not enough juice left and the dash went black. Back to square one. Put on the charger for a while and then turned the ignition on/off a few hundre times more (not exaggerating) and *finally* it started and I could drive back home. What gives?? Is it the key itself or something with the ignition?? |

Sounds like bad transponder in the key (try the other black key), failing that it could be the receiver in the ignition barrel assembly.
It might be worth checking the multi-plug connector for the ignition switch. As with all XT electrical connections they are prone to corrosion - you might just have an intermittent bad connection which comes good as you turn the key repeatedly/vibrate the switch? |
