07 XTX snapped fork dielema. USD or conventional?

hi guys.
Ive been reading over the posts on fork swaps on the xt's. I love the look of the USD's and less maintanance (maybe), but dont know what way to go!

I just bought a smashed 07 xtx. the forks snapped clean off. smashed the rim and the header pipe (the one with the O2 sensor). now ive got to get her back on the road.

PLAN A: I can get motard Takasago rims in the Philippines for about $100 (AU). spoke set maybe $50 with postage from ebay. front disc was ok so no need to replace it. fork tubes are about $350 the pair. upper and lower front guards about 150 (ebay). should I just rebuild the originals for around $650 or go the other way:

PLAN B: buy some cr/wr or what have you forks (around $250), make up a plate/ & tabs for the steering lock and stoppers, (maybe $70 in materials and a welder). front motard guard -universal (maybe polisport) $50, make up a plate to fit my sexy black brembo caliper to the fork lowers ($30), add a head bearing (ones bound to fit), and some welding machining to the triples $50, and add on the rim and spokes at $150 the pair. all up around $600.

so the USD's work out a little cheaper, as long as i dont need to revalve them or buy new springs like Ive seen others do to 250cc forks. (I was guessing a pair of klx650 forks, or dr650 or something should do)...

the standard forks mean I can keep it genuine, but could it be hard getting parts for the paoli forks at a later date?

another issue I havent heard people mention when doing fork swaps is the actual offset of the triples. is this important? I think the std xt660x is about 25mm. one set of usd's i checked out had a 30mm offset. could 5mm increase lead to better high speed handling? or worse?

any comments appreciated guys, Thanks!

the last owner ran up the bum of a ute. should see the dent in the tank where his balls hit! now that must have hurt! I do have some right way up zx636 forks but they are about 200mm too short. they do look good though with the twin 6 pot calipers. too much stopping power there though i guess.

come on guys- any suggestions?

Look after a set of fork from KTM 625/660 smc with 4 piston caliper. Got a KTM 690 enduroR 2012 fork with 2 piston caliper on my XT660R. Was no big problem to fix the stem.

nice bike Landton... very nice setup. In the end i went for the cheapest option-a set of klx650 forks and triples. they bolted straight in. the klx triple bearings were the same and the shaft length was ok, although about 5mm short, so ill shave down the retaining nut to compensate.

only mods i can see will be the steering lock tangs will have to be trimmed back as they are rubbing against the handlebar mount nuts, and the bump stops will need a tang welded on there. (also a plate for the ignition lock)
