Great Lakes Meet and Ride Weekend
Folks
I am thinking about a hosting a weekend at Wootton (Great Lakes, NSW, Australia). I've got 100 acres, so no issues with camping and there are some great rides are in the area: Maybe a navigation exercise across; Beaches, mountains, fast dirt, winery, slow dirt, trails, etc. Is there any interest in doing a "Lakelands" type weekend? I am also the local fire captain so it really would need to be outside of the main fire season (summer). Maybe the October long weekend or Australia day next year? Anyone else got any ideas? Maybe a meet up in the Barrington Tops, or a Stockton Beach run? Cheers |

Numbers are rolling in thick and fast
Just spoke to my better half and she is up for it.
So that is 2 XT660R's at a minimum..... |

What a great suggestion
I'm trying to work out the issues I'd have coming..... once I've got them sorted, I'll be there!
If you need anything to help you with a navigation event, or just want to have a chat about the pro's and cons, or where we made mistakes drop me a pm. In the mean time, I'll get saving....

Are you mad, do you really want to show these guys that little slice of heaven there count me in. Yes yes yes but not sure about a run along Stockton Beach on the 660. I`m sure you know there are some great dirt roads between Gloucester and Wootton and I could bring a group down from Qld through Nundle to Moonan and over the top to meet up there. The only real problem I see is what to fit in and what to leave out but there are enough good rides down there to last a fare few years. |

maybe a little insanity doesn't hurt
a XT660 is fine on Stockton (provided you've got a pass).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP6WDp7GFok notice at 0:13 it even looks to have standard tyres??? Maybe a blip along Mungo Brush beach instead? Stroud Pub for lunch (best mixed grill going) or National Motor Cycle Museum then Nabiac Hotel (cheapest meal in area) decisions, decisions. Via Markwell it is pretty easy to do a round trip well into Barrington Tops in a day.... or up to Elands to the Waterfall! Your right though, what to include and what to exclude. I am thinking that October is too soon, Australia Day maybe a better option. And then I am open to how it is to be ran. Option A [The Tight A*se Way]: Everyone turns up, fends for them self, talks cow manure, rides, more talk, goes home. No cost. Option B [The Win Win]: Everyone turns up saturday; some tents provided (I think last count I've got about 3 big ones (you bring your own sleeping bag), probably could get a lend of a big central one as well), a basic meal saturday night, ride all sunday, sweeper ute provided to collect broken ones (just in case), BBQ Sunday night with a keg some sort of prize draw, party to wee hours, breakfast Monday everyone departs. Do you want a polo shirt to remember it by? Cost: Depending on numbers, but about $100 should cover it. Option C [The Government Way]: We fly "Gas_Up_Lets_Go" out to Australia, we pay him a massive consultancy fee, everything is organized down to the last detail we spend a weekend together and spend the next 3 years paying it off. Cost: $10,000 per person, minimum 127 Talk to me, these things just don't magically occur.

Option D: This is starting to take shape....
I was talking the bloke at work that runs the asphalt plant (he rides a 1970's XT250 and owns a heap of 50cc 1960's - 1980's obscure European racing bikes) and he was saying that he did a ride a couple of years ago, that they all stayed in an old hall that they rented out for $100. Now assuming that this may have gone up some what, lets say it is now $200 per night it is still the way to go.
This is a great idea, this way all we need is sleeping bag, a change of jocks. Particularly if people are coming from a long way away, minimum of stuff to carry, and as long as everyone is happy to eat some sort of BBQ meat and 3 veg, willing to rough it a little etc, cost will be around $100 for the weekend. I am going to look into halls this weekend and availability on the October long weekend. Here are some of my assumptions: 10 people x $100 = $1000............................................. .................................................. ................................ {running total $1000} two Halls hire @ $200 = -$400.............................................. .................................................. ......................... {running total $600} meals 2 days -$200 .................................................. .................................................. ....................................{running total $400} sweeper ute to move stuff A - B leaving bikes free of luggage -$50 .... .................................................. ..................{running total $350} prizes (everyone wins a mystery prize on Sunday night) -$150 .................................................. .............................{running total $200} everyone get issued with commemorative a camp set of cutlery, plate and cup to save everyone dragging along the kitchen sink it will all be provided then you take it with you at the end. -$200 ..............................................{run ning total $0} A donation to local charity by popular vote on the weekend if there are more than 10 or cash left over! Saturday Morning: Meet up, Ride somewhere Saturday 200+ km. Over night in some hall. Sunday Morning: Eat Ride somewhere else 200+ km Over night in another hall prize draw. Monday Morning: Eat Go our separate ways. Any thoughts on Option D. I am thinking about really covering some ground and this is going to be the way. How does that sound Last edited by Woottonboy; 21-06-12 at 10:35. Reason: didn't like the formating and extra idea's |

A,B and D sound good but ****** C haha.
D is sounding good but A and B are ok as well as it would not be to hard to do some loop rides that end up back at yours and still see a lot. D is good as you can get around a bit more as well and show that wonderull country around there. Now having been to the National Motor Cycle Museum three times I know how many hours one can spend there and the ability to become lost in there, just saying. I am looking at working out when I can get down there and maybe help with some recce rides (will stay in contact with you). I hope you can get the numbers up and make it a regular thing but like you say it also requires others input and ideas. Cheers. Shane |
