i dont think they are, they may have started life out as metal mule bars but they've been modified haven't they? The lower bit that comes out over the second crash panel (thats hides the coolant res) isnt standard...thats been added.

kind of way too much if you ask me... i've been thrashing the Tenere for 40k without any crashbars and nothing they'd protect suffered except for the gray panels on the tank...

true, in the end i fitted some H&B but only because they covered the water pump and serve as a nice place to hang some additional lights...

imho they look like to be fitted on a tenere used for a drive permission school , they also put those bars on street bike here to protect them from falling down during exams or student training ...

I've crashed my ten also many times and only damage is scratches on the side panels

If one of these brakes you just replace it ..

Unhappy

I quite like those bars. I really think there are pros and Cons to crash bars. Like it must be annoying when working on your bike as they will need to be removed to get to things.

my only concerns for my Ten are the water pump which is kind of protected by my GIT bas guard, the lower coolant hose which I have seen damaged in a fall, and the coolant tank.

I also think damage to your bike depends on what terrain you ride. Rocky terrain can cause real problems as they can be odd shapes and poke into places- that's how the coolant hose got split that I mentioned.

Two days ago after a weeks stay I got out of hospital after a crash on a old disused bitumen road. If I didn't have the GIT bash plate I would have smashed the water pump and possibly the cases. After crashing on bitumen I think those crash bars would protect the bike well. As mentioned before they would make maintenance a little more difficult, but the protection they create in my opinion would out weigh this issue.

Hey my XT660X has fallen over a few times and seems to get very little damage at all. I just fitted a set of GIVI hard case frames and these will now protect the exhausts....
