Hi from South Africa
Hallo daar. After lurking around on this site while looking for a XT660R i can finally introduce myself after collecting my "new" ride. I am located in Krugersdorp west from Johannesburg in Gauteng province.
I enjoyed the 207km ride home after collecting the bike in Madimolle (Nylstroom). Coming from a BMW R1150GS i am quite surprized with the comfortable ride although the high screen throughs the wind directly in under the helmet peak. Fuel consumption rather bad (14km/l) at the moment but still needs to investigate possible reasons. Will post some pictures as soon as i can found out how. |

What are the chances of a faulty fuel indicator? How would one cure a rich mixture? Sorry about the questions. |

I'd suggest a new high flow airfilter such as DNA/K&N, then open up the air box top which perhaps has already been done. Kev's fuel mod (search this site) is a sensible addition or a power commander if you're feeling flush.
What pipes are you running as free flowing pipes obvioulsy help the engine breath. Look also at removing the AIS pipe (search site for how to do this). Your right wrist may also need calibrating to get more MPG!!

Hehe welcome to the BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD to get help and friendly advice about the XT range. I too have an XT660X (see list of mods below) and I get a consistent 20 km per litre and even more if on A roads and out of town, so you must sort out the plug, the CO setting, the snorkel and the air filters, and by all means a good exhaust set will help too.
Have fun!!!!!
