Hi from OZ

G'day everybody.

Great forum guys. I had a mid 80s XT600 about 14yrs ago, and it was the best all round bike I ever had. It had the small tank, which I soon changed over for an ex-army long range tank (23ltr?), and that gave me all the range I wanted. I was sad when I sold it, but it was getting a bit old (still going strong though) and it was a kickstart (which really p'd me off sometimes when it was hot ).

Anyway, last year (after a 10 yr spell) I finally decided to get back onto two wheels again. I was keen on another XT, but I let the wife talk me into a cruiser (Suzuki Boulevard C50), which was ok, but after about a year and half, I can take no more .

I'm taking a redundancy payout in a couple of months and plan to do the responsible thing and lash out on a proper bike. The Boulevard is going and I want either a new 660 Tenere, or perhaps a low klm Super Tenere.

The 660 is the front runner so far, so much more manoeuvrable and I'm lusting after that long range capability again. I'll fit it out properly of course (Metal Mule panniers, bash plates, bars, etc) and I'll get all new personal gear too, so my apologies in advance for all the stupid questions to come form me soon.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you guys over time.

Cheers
Scotty

Hi and welcome to the forum

You will find all the questions and answers on here for probably 99% of your questions (most of the R related questions by me over soon point in time).

Oh and never listen to the wife when it comes to bikes, just tell here your going to change the colour of it and she will take a few weeks before she notices the name, shape, style etc of the bikes changed!!!!

Welcome Scotty

Hi mate,

Lots of helpful advice here. More & more Aussies on all the time as well.

I'd say go the 660Z, ST is a tank. There are some very well set up Teneres around, even some nice XTRs (if I do say so myself)

Cheers from Qld, Boneman

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome. Can see I'm going to be spending some time here.

Thanks also for the suggestions. BTW the wife's only been on the back of the Boulevard once in the last year & a half anyway, so you're right about allowing them to air their opinions on such matters (apologies to any female riders out there - comment aimed at non riding spouses in general I guess).

Are any of you guys near Central Coast north of Sydney? I don't really know anyone else with trailies around here (even though there's HEAPS of great tracks everywhere).

Mate, try ADVrider.com Lots of older guys there, not crazy young guys going nuts in the bush.

We have a very active group here in SEQ, so you'll no doubt find some like minded grown up trail & adventure riders in the mid north/central coast.

BTW run over Craig Thomson if you get a chance

Cheers, Boneman

Beauty, thanks Boneman. I'll definitely suss these out. I'm 47yrs old, but not sure about my level of maturity (wife reckons I'm pre-pubescent ). Doubt very much I could (or want to) keep up with the whippersnappers anyway.
