mousse anyone?

hi all
anyone on here running mousse's,i would love to run them on the ten i was told some time back that they would not last,so a waste of money

most of my rides are only for the day, with 75% of the ride being on sharp stones/rocks etc but not a lot of road riding

ive got them in my ktm300exc and love them,

so any feed back would be good

Thumbs up

I have run with moose's (if thats a word) in quite a few bikes with out any problems. Make sure they are well lubed when they are fitted.

The down side is to make them last you have to kerb your road speed a little say 70-75 max. The heat generated on the road make them go off.

They seem a little soft on a big bike due to the weight but you have them on your other bike so you will know that.

Let us know how you get on.

hi, you do know there are different grades of michelin mousses, rally ones are firmer therefore harder to fit. as dick dastardly says keep the speed down, plenty of lube,

on a desert rally with the tenere i did 5,000 miles[2 desert rear tyres] on the same rear mousse, i still occasionally fit it for offroading. it's still in great shape.

the front however was an enduro version, it lasted for about 3,500milesthen went 'off' big style leaving with 200k's left in a 750k day. all i could do was strap it and get the gas on!, i was not aware then that there was a rally spec front

my advice go for it! nothing is worse than a day ruined by punctures or having to back it off due to the fear of compression punctures

I am not aware of a 17" rear mousse, but I may be wrong...

The Michelin Desert Mousse's that Stoic refers to are 18" rear only.

Talked to a guy who'd cut out a piece to make an 18" mousse fit on the 17" rim. Then rode it 2500 km rally through Eastern Europe. . . Not ideal I'd say, but didn't gave him any trouble.

I'll be using an 18" rim to hold that mousse though.

If one were riding a 17" rear would tire balls be a viable alternative on the Tenere?

I've found mousses to be quite versatile, if the 18'' is too firm remove a couple of inches, cutting out a pizza style slice if you get my meaning. if i want a firmer mousse for really rocky dry enduros I add about 5-6 inches of a slice to harden. hope this helps
