my old yamaha and my new XT
So i thought it was high time to post some pix of my bike.
first up is the old girl that went to make way for the XT. It was a WR125X, slightly tweaked to make a 125 4t a bit more fun. She did me proud for the duration of our relationship but obviously once all UK tests were completed she had to make way for something more powerful and commuter friendly... Rolly : So anyway after much deliberation I decided to stick the Yamahas and go with the XT, it was between an X and an SMC690 Katoom. I decided on the X due to commuting around 70 miles a day and generally riding alot most of the time, so my reasoning was the X would be more commute friendly and also I will probably be less likely to lose my license Of course it has nothing to do with the fact that I like a project and I know the X needs bit and pieces doing to it to make it reach its` full potential. Gecko : So far she has twin Ti Akra`s, a PCiii, K&N stage 1, 14t Driven front sprocket and barkbusters. The mod list to come is as follows : Stage 2 DNA Kev Spacer mod Kev O2 eliminator Custom tail tidy with LED rear light Renthal Fatbars with 25mm riser Shorty adjustable clutch lever Crash bungs Water pump protection Custom seat LED indicators HID Projector I am also toying with the idea of doing the KTM front end conversion on the shockers but I think I will do a bit more research about WR250X front shocks and Triples... Visually they look about right Anyways, it has been good reading all the info and interacting with all the good folk here and I hope it continues for many years. More to follow as it gets done Last edited by feck; 12-02-12 at 20:50. |

Nice bike, bring on the weather, having owned many ktm,s over the years you cannot fault the build quality and bomb proof engine on the yam, i,ve had a few wr450,s from new and done 6000 miles off road and green laning still on the original piston, i change the oil every 8hrs and once the valves have been shimmned, starts on the button every time, you dont get that with a ktm, well you might but you would have spent a fortune on maintenance.

So I ripped out the the snorkel today and upped to CO 7 points to 24, what a difference, surge is still ever so slightly there but really a lot better! Still running a 'zero' map on the PC3 going to wait until I have installed Kev`s O2 eliminator before changing maps. Also can`t wait to stick the fork spacers in as I find the front end to be rather vague at times especially in medium speed corners. Finally I gave her a good old clean today (damned salt!) and ACF50`d everything that needed it. Really rather pleased with the X so far, it seems to have been the right choice. |

Just make sure the tyre pressures are checked before you put in the fork spacers, i know my old xtr use to handle really weird if the front was even 2-3 psi below pressure, but felt fine if it was 2-3 psi over!!!!
