Whether you really need to go to all the expense of converting to WP forks is up to you and your personal needs. Several here have done this conversion. These are the triple clamps you'll need (not cheap)...

You could end up spending half the value of your bike on the forks!

I went for cheap-skate replacement springs option, and you'd be amazed what a difference it makes for little more than a hundred quid. Obviously it won't be anywhere near as good as a full WP48 setup, but you pays your money and makes your choice...

I aggrozle. Went for a spring upgrade in the front and spent the rest of my cash on a full shock upgrade on the rear

I would have had the complete clamp/fork kit from oro, dont mind the money as i plan on keeping the bike long term and the bikes only 10 months old now, but after the poor service from oro recently i dont fancy getting involved with them again , i think i,ll go for the front spring upgrade and ohlins rear shock from a uk supplier. when i get it done i,ll let you know how it goes.

Have a chat with Will of Kevin at FTR suspension, they are fountains of knowledge when it comes to all things bouncy and are official Ohlins dealers. They have a 150 cashback offer on at the moment on Ohlins shocks...

http://www.ftrsuspension.co.uk/exchangescheme.htm

They'll also cut you a good deal if you gets forks springs and shock together too.

I went in intending to go the Ohlins route, but ended up with Yacugar fork springs and shock, mainly because they're progressive and have a range of springs better suited to my lightish weight. What ever you get it will be built to order and your requirements.

I upgraded the front to HyperPro ages ago, they are a vast improvement on the stock springs.

In the case of HyperPro, it's not just springs, they are longer than the OE ones (and the spacer is removed), they also spec a different oil weight. The front is much more stable and less likely to wash out over the OE setup. Braking is far better and the bike turns in better under load on the road.

Sort of depends how far you need to go, rather than how far you want to go!

As for the rear, I upgraded that to HyperPro too, but there was little improvement over a (what I suspect) new OE spring, other than it was cheaper to go HypePro!! (Yamaha OE spare prices ).

Not quite. Well, maybe, if you bought the forks brand new from OTR.de

I think my running total is currently about 1350 for the front end, and I've not sold any of the original bits yet, so the final score should be a bit less. That's using OTR yokes, but second hand forks, wheel, master cylinder, plus new disc, pads, brake hose, fork guards, etc.

I'd like to think my bike was worth more than 2700, although there's probably not that much in it after nearly thirty thousand miles of abuse.

Is it worth it? I'd hope so for me, but then I'm going racing on it. Trail riding only, I don't know if I'd have bothered.

Have a look at the blue moto at the right side. KTM triple clamps (from KTM 690 enduro) with a WP48 fork, brake setup and front wheel from a 950 super enduro. All those parts were around EUR 600-700 alltogether as far as I remember from what the owner told me. The triple clamps and the steering shaft were supplied by myself, btw. There is no big trouble in doing this kind of conversion. The only custom made thing you need is a new steering shaft fitting the KTM triple clamps and the Tenere headset bearing. Manufacturing such a part would be EUR 100.- over here. Also, you need to be careful about overall fork length when compressed. This varies for different WP forks. For the Tenere the WP fork should be a lengthy type. Otherwise there is not enough of clearance when using up all of the fork travel.
Regards, Phil
