Scottoiler question.

hi guys,
having a bit of trouble with my scottoiler vSystem that i just fitted and cant seem to set up right, ive got it set to 1 drop a minute like it says but it still decided to spunk all over the tyre wall and a few bits on the contact surface off the tyre.
naturally i adhusted it some more and still too much commin out even tho ive only got i tad left on the adjuster.

Puzzled?

There are a couple of things;

1) the oil flows more during warmer weather, so the same setting one week might well let more oil through the next.

2) Two types of oil, blue oil for cool/cold weather and red oil for warm weather. Red oil is thicker and flows slower in hot weather.

Scottoilers are brilliant money saving gizmo's, but you do have to keep on top of the adjustment.

knock it back a notch and keep an eye on the flow, if it looks too much, then knock it back again. As the weather cools (into winter) start to increase the flow.

You will always get some splatter, that's a big plus point of the system, it washes away crud/crap/salt/sand etc - better than a new chain & sprocket every 10,000 miles.

08 Tenere, still on original chain & sprocket after 24k miles.......

Where is the best place to put the chamber? Under the seat or on the frame or under the rear rack?

Actually ... I got rid of the scottoiler quite some time ago.

I suspect that the single cilinder vacuum pulses make it hard to tune the oil flow. I did use the red oil: the blue oil almost flushed through!

I do ride off-road/unpaved roads quite a lot and sand combined with too much oil make a nice grinding paste...

... so I returned to the occasional (once in 500km) manual chain lubrication and chain life went up to almost 20,000km's , instead of 15.000km.

I found the opposite, traditional thick chain lube with sand and dirt turned into an even thicker grinding paste. The thin Scotoil never stuck to anything, except to the wheel rims and the underside of the rear mud guard. In sand and off road the setting just needed to be turned up a bit.
