leaking radiator

hello the warning light on the display came on for overheated motor,so when the engine cooled down i checked the radiator no water so i filled it up again and rode home,when i came home my right foot was wet and water waz leaking from the filler cap.has anybody an idea what it can be .the bike is 08 xt660r with 50,000kms,help

Did you notice if the fan came on or not?

the fan came on when the warning light came on, but after i filled it with water it did not come on,the water that leaked was warm and not hot

I would check to make sure that all the clips are tight that hold the radiator hoses on, fill up and test it again. I had a leak in my raditor hose once and have still yet to find out why the water level keeps ever so slightly going down in the bottle over a few months riding.

If not and it is probably the cap, it could just be a worn rubber seal, a new radiator cap shouldnt be too expensive.

It was in my case. Go with inner tube for both seals.

I'd check the oil for any water contamination just to be on the safe side.
