Unhappy Attempt 3 at fitting barkbusters FAILED!! Please help.

Hi,

So I finally bought myself a pair of Barkbusters VPS handguards and was so excited I came straight home from the shop and tried to fit them. I have an '09' XTR. I removed the bar end weights then faced a problem....the inserts where the screw screws in to. Attempt 1: screwed the screw in and tried to pull out the insert with hands, pliers, and even got my dad to have a shot...No dice! I got onto the forum, searched handguards, someone said use WD40 then hammer the screw twice and should come out. Attempt 2: WD40 and hammer...Fail! Sat down a while, had a cup of tea and mustered as much brain power as I could post night shift... Uh-huh!!!!! surely metal handlebars would expand in the heat and contract in the cold and it is damn cold. Attempt 3: heat pack, hot water, more WD40 and a hammer...Epic fail! Well not epic but certainly fail. My handlebars are still tip top shape after I let off some steam with the rubber mallet but I am no closer to fitting the barkbusters. I cant quite warrant buying aftermarket bars just yet so I am in need of some help.

Is there a proper way of gtetting the inserts out?

If not, can anyone suggest something else I can try?

Thanks in advance

I also have a set sitting at home waiting to be fitted. Havant tried yet though. From what i've read if you run them without the weights the vibration can be uncomfortable. People seem to recommend not using the barkbuster expanders and just bolting the barkbusters to the end of the existing bar weights. I was going to get some longer bolts (m6 I think) to fit in the end of the weights so I can also bolt on the barkbusters.

Thanks for the help guys.

I guess the only option at this time is to get a longer bolt and attach the barkbusters to the end of the weights.

Thanks

Fitted mine today. To fit around the weights I had bend the alloy bars to account for the additional length. They were a ****** to bend even with a vice. I straigtened the main curve so it was more like a 90 degrees and added an additional bend at the end to align the end hole with the bars. Used longer M6 bolts to secure in the ends. Hope this helps.
