660R with motard wheels
Im assuming I could just chop and change them?
Im interested in purchasing a R but also have a nice set of wheels from my WR450 motard. Ill just put them on and go play? Id prefer to have longer travel suspension on the R than the stiffer X since the bike will be used more off road than on. |

The WR50 will have completely different discs and wheels to the XT660R, also the XT is about 60kilos extra so the spokes will be taking alot more abuse than they would on the WR.
I would suggest you sell the WR wheels and get a set of XTX wheels for the R. Then its just a case of changing over the wheels and the R's front brake to the X (unless you want to start changing braking attachment points on fork legs or calipers etc)

You'll almost certainly need custom spacers. Brake disk will probably be a different diameter, and possibly at a different offset from the centre of the wheel, but you can sort both of those with a caliper bracket. They almost certainly won't plug and play, it will involve some custom machining of bits, but I'm sure it's doable, and once you have the custom bits it would be a quick swap. Whether it's less hassle to buy a set of XTX wheels depends on whether you have access to a friendly machine shop

Thats not a problem. They are mag rims from a superbike. They handle abuse well though. This option will be a whole lot cheaper that X wheels. Stock X wheel is a 4.25 in the rear. This is a 4.5 I dont think it will be a problem though. |

XTR to XTX conversion
I had an XTX, and I now have an XTR.
X was written off by insurance for a nick in the sump!!! I moved to Perth at the same time, and thought the R would be best in the outback. It was. I brought it back with me to Africa, and would like to swop around though, I think the X is so much sexier! Also, the wider wheels do well on sand! Im thinking of getting a standard XTR hub, and lace the XTX rim onto the R-hub, thus avoiding all the mods and simplifying the swop over when I do a RTW, probably with R-wheels. Any ideas if this can be done? |
