checking Oil level

When checking the level, I have been following the handbook instructions to the letter.
My understanding is that since the engine uses dry sump, if the check is left too long, the oil will drain from the upper reservoir and I guess the stick will show either low or no level.
Now while doing my recent regular check, I forgot the oil and check it after few hours & found the level on the stick to be normal
So after another run, and an overnight wait, I checked the level and it was halfway between the 2 markers.

So why is the oil not draining after such a long time. Is this normal
