Heated grips wiring
Hi guys. I'm trying to install heated grips on my XTR. Does anyone have any pictures of how to connect them to the system? I don't want to connect them to the battery in case I forget to turn them off. Thank you

Hi vadka, sorry no pics to help but i wired mine to the dipped beam headlight feed so that it only comes on as the bike fires up and off again with the ignition

Thanks for replies guys. Will be looking into wiring diagrams to see how I can do that. Any idea if I can connect it through excess connection under the seat? I think it might be for alarm or something like that. Thanks

Yes there is a plug under the seat for an alarm and you could use that as it comes on with the ignition ,used mine for a sat nav and wired the grips into the sidelights
Simples

Or you could wire them through a relay. It's been mentioned here before. It allows you to run the grips directly off the battery but only be live when the ignition is on. The Standard 4 pin automotive relay cost me about 2 from Maplin.
Pin 85 - Battery -ve Pin 86 - Ignition +ve (I used the ignition live from the alarm plug that you have found) Pin 30 - Battery +ve (best with an inline fuse) Heated grips Negative - Battery -ve Positive - Relay pin 87 You don't have to worry about overloading an existing circuit by adding 4A to it but your grips wont drain the battery if you forget to turn them off. I mounted the relay and the oxford controller on top of the air box in the space that was left when the snorkle was removed. I don't have any pics at the moment but I can try and take one tomorrow and post it.

Thank You
Hi Guys,
Me again. Thank you so much fro your replies. I managed to sort it out finally. Had some troubles but final result was worth it. I bought wrap around sticky panels and had no idea where to put the switch for the grips as i did not want to drill any additional holes in the bodywork and the switch i had, had no mounting bracket for the handlebars. So, my optimal solution is pictured below. Thanks again, vadka ![]() ![]() ![]() |
