Best bar Risers?
I've been searching, but can't seem to find any threads on risers for the new Teneres.
What do you guys reckon? Are there any commonly agreed upon bar risers that are best for the new 660z Tenere? Anything to be aware of with fitting them? The standard ones just seem too low when I'm standing up. |

Try this thread...
http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=18881 Most info is covered here. Main thing to watch is cable length if you go more than +30mm |

i've got some shim stack style ones that cost about 35, there good as you can alter the height.
I had them at full height to start with which was 40mm, cables reached and when up on the pegs the bars felt at a great height. But....its all a compromise, as when sat down the bars felt too high. I've took a shim out so now there at about 30mm whcih feels good when stood up or sat down. The main problem is when you have an off, the risers seem to twist. You need to loosen it all off, re-align and tighten up. Not hard to do but just annoying. |

TBH when I had the stock front end in I never found I needed to loosen anything off, I could usually straighten it up sat on the bike just by forcing the bars against the lockstops. Rather than using extra risers, another option is to change the bars for Renthal 613 bend. Gives about 25-30mm raise at the grips, and works with the stock cables.

Yeah, normal 7/8" braced Renthals.
You'll lose your bar end weights and the OE handguards if you have them, but you'll gain the ability to fit better aftermarket handguards.

You might need to be careful filtering though, especially if you have panniers.

You do need to re-route the throttle cables where they pass under the tank (they go under the oil pipe and need to go over it), like in the graphic below -> The current route is shown in red, the green is the oil pipe and the blue dashed line is the new route.

Wow guys, I certainly came to the right place for intel. Thanks for all your inputs. Time to digest & consider now. I do like the simplicity of the Renthal option. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers guys.

I use SW Motech 30mm risers on o/e bars because I think the Yamaha hand guards are ace and presumably won't fit the Renthals.
