Wheel Balancing

The OE Pirelli Dragons I have just taken off didn't have any form of balancing on the wheel.

I've seen balance weights attached to the spokes on other bikes, however I just had my Dunlop Roadsmarts fitted and the shop didn't have that sort of weight, so the choice was no balancing or.....

No very happy with the look, but with 46g on the back and 60g on the front I think that would have made quite a difference to the feel.

What are your thoughts please?

Nick.

if you loose as many as 2 on the front, you are likely to get a noticable wobble, I would spend the extra wad and go to another wheel specialist to have spoke weights fitted. If you do wheelies then its twice as likely you will loose them.

I had the same done when i got my off roading tyres put on. Even though im pretty sure i saw a box full of the wieght that you attach to the spokes.

Dont mean to nick a thread but how often should you get the spokes checked?? Every service or wheel change?? (which evers first)

Distressing I know, I fitted Distanzias and the muppets could not find the kit to balance the wheels at the time so I had no option to ride unbalanced and you know what it made no difference at all. The bike handled fine without the weights. I am not saying you do not need the weights.

I think you will have to live with them unless you can find a place to do the spoke weights just like the OEM ones if anyone does do these.

I just had a look at mine and I have no spoke weights or anything on the front but I do have a spoke weight on the rear which is almost exactly opposite the valve. I wonder if that has something to do with it... As you know I am on the first set of standard tyres just like you were.

Other than the fitting issue are you happy with the tyres or is it to early to assess them?

If I was the mechanic I would have let the tyre down again & turned it 180 degrees to use less weights.

Well that never crossed my mind, thanks Kev.

As Tony mentioned, the weights are opposite the valve, I was thinking of getting some spoke weights and removing the stick on ones, however I'll probably wait and see if they fall off first.

Either that or just take it into a decent bike shop and get it done!
