Tom Tom Rider (V1)
Anyone got a Tom Tom Rider? If so, have you used the Tom Tom bracket supplied or upgraded to a Touratech one? My questions are regarding the Tom Tom's supplied bracket/mount: Does the plug 'click' into place or just push in? Is there supposed to be a rubber sealing plug over the connectors for when it's not being used? Does the Tom Tom unit let you know whether or not the mount is working (i.e. providing power)?

CaptMoto should be able to help you more on the power lead connection to your TomTom and how to tell it's taking power as he's got one.
As far as I know, the Touratech holder is just a holder for the unit itself. You still have to put your power lead into your TomTom. With my Garmin I still have to use the original holder. The original holder bolts to the Touratech holder. The power lead screws into the original holder, not the Touratech holder. Hope this helps. |

Cheers, it does. Did you say that your lead 'screws into' the mount? That sounds far more secure. My Tom Tom one just kinda pushes into place??? That can't be right can it???

I've heard that CaptMoto has a bit of a problem with the charging lead not connecting all the time. I've also read something on PocketGPSWorld about the power lead on the TomTom not always making a good connection. It's a common problem I think.
TomTom Rider (v2) might have cured this problem. I'm not sure though. Yes, my power lead screws into the Zumo holder and is supplied with 2 x tiny screws with locktite already on the screws. My Zumo unit connects with the holder with with lots of spring pin connections. Before I got my Touratech holder I had a problem with the pins vibrating and all sorts of problems occurred like I made a 25 minute phone call to a friend without knowing, one side of my headphones went dead and eventually the Zumo would lock up because of the vibrating pins powering up the Zumo and disconnecting several times per second. All sorted now though because of the Touratec holder. |
