Spare parts pricing ,,,,
2 weeks ago my clutch cable snapped 400km from home (was away for work)
(See http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...le%20gave%20up) Well i phoned the nearest authorized yamaha dealer (Copenhagen Denmark) and was promissed a 2 day delivery time (Phoned before noon on tuesday with delivey thursday to the shop) Unfortunately it did not arrive, and friday was a public holiday. But as you can see in my original post i fixed it temporarely and i have later collected the cable i ordered. But when i was told the price i was close to say f**k *#"#!"!# ! 437,50 DKK ~58 EUR for the cable ! I had searched online and found the 5VK-6335-000 for 37,19 EUR (plus shipping) from http://www.kfm-motorraeder.de/cms/en...d=5VKF63350000 and 24,38/31EUR (plus shipping from http://www.bike-parts-yam.com/ ) Well she said that the prices was supposed to be the same all over europe with only the differences caused by different VAT. Well i ordered the cable because i had hoped to get in time for the long ride home, but have now done ~1000km with my repair. A OEM cable from Kedo (that is probably of the same quality of not better) is only €14 How much are you charged for simple service parts ?

Carry one of these next time, unless you've taken the step of running a second clutch cable alongside the original.

Just out of curiosity Majland, do you have the shorty levers from an eBay site like the one's you can see in Pepsi's post? I have them on mine & Ive noticed that where the cable runs from the lever into the adjuster the cable is not central in the hole when pulled in & out. You can feel it more so when turning the adjuster as the slot in it catches on the cable when it is facing to the front. Since dicovering this I now like to keep the area where the cable & adjuster rub well greased.
And with regard to the original "What do you get charged for parts" The dealer I bought the bike from gives a 10% discount on everything I get from him. Which is better than a kick in the teeth. Last edited by Desert Racer; 14-09-16 at 12:39. |

I could understand a higher price IF they had it in stock. But if they have to order it then why such a high price?????? Seems to me they are taking the piss cos they know that normally a clutch cable is an emergency purchase?? Scumbags....
