DNA Filters + Stage 2 Tenere??

Hi All,
I have done all the reading i can possibly find and it seems like DNA is the way to go for my pretty stock 2009 Ten. I have both kev mod kits in and they are doing really well, but it's time to keep going. I have de-catted my exhaust and now i need it to breathe better. However there seems to be a lack of info on people modding Tens to stage 2 who are taking their bikes way offroad.
My main problem is, how will a Ten go with a stage 2? I'm thinking future possible water crossings etc, and the fact that i intend to send this thing into anything i can find. Should i worry about removing snorkel for that extra few mm of water clearance?
Is there anyone out there that has had some first hand experience with this type of setup in muddy, dusty, water filled km's?
Thanks All....

I pulled the DNA filters out of my XTR as fine dust was
getting passed them....
now use oiled foam...

Anything hi flow has to have big holes somewhere......

DNA / K & N style filters are great for road going bikes
but not on a bike that sees any dusty roads...

This is worth a read.... take note where the K & N/DNA style filters
came in all tests....

...yeah that exactly what I was worried about. The bike is an 09, but only done 12 000km. So don't want to be pumping dust in the top end...
Thankyou for the feedback mate. Really appreciate it.
And I'll check the link a bit later on.
Cheers

For what it's worth I've done many km's with my DNA filter and DNA filter cover on dust filled roads behind other riders and never noticed any spec of dust past the filter. If you use the filter with the original snorkel cover, it apparently doesn't seal against the DNA filter and you will get lots of dust past the top of the filter.
Personally I think your easiest power gain on a Tenere is to fit the DNA filter, the stage 2 cover and the Kev's O2 and fuel mod.

The thing about adding more power to the XTR or Ten is
the bike can't use the power it already has on anything
but a smooth sealed straight road...
The suspension is budget , very budget..
Suspension is where the biggest gains
are...
Off road the bike will be faster , easyer to ride , less rider fortige..

True. I rode with 7 KTM's in offroad, forest trails, mud, crosstrack style bumps etc... I did not lack any power, but bike is heavy and you simply cant ride fast enough cause bike wants to throw you over(front dampers can't absorb the bumps and rear jumps up like a mad horse) . I have hyperpro springs front and rear. I rode in mine and bike limits sometimes with them. I have stock gearing and power. Average speeds were around 50km/h in forest. Very twisty and bumpy with soft roads.

Humanfly,
I've already answered your first question about the dust past the DNA filter.
To answer your second question about water ingress due to the DNA cover in stead of the snorkel, all I can say is that we've been through fairly deep water and unless you dunk your bike (fall over) you'll have to submerge your Tenere very deep to get water in the air intake, snorkel or DNA cover. If you really wanted to increase wading depth even more, it would be possible to do a home made extension on the DNA cover, but by that time your battery and ECU will be under water too !
Like was said before, the snorkel only serves to quieten intake noise and will not lessen water intake into the air filter.

Everyone to his own and we all ride different types of terrain.
In August last year we did a 4 day on/off road trip and apart from one 800GS the rest of the 17 bikes were 950 KTM's up to 1190 KTM's and 1200 GS's. Despite my small bike, they could not get away from me on any dirt tracks (except once or twice where we went over 160kph) and on the paved roads where we sometimes cruised at 150-160kph. The stock suspension on the Tenere is so much better than the 800GS I had previously. I love this bike. Not light in weight, but handles very lightly.

Thanks for your responses. It seems like unless i go awimming stage 2 should be ok. not sure on how many crossings i'm planning on, but better to be on the safe side. plus i can always change it back, thanks to kevs mods!!! too easy..

renten, i agree suspension does lack a little, but i only find it to stugge on high speed whoops. i generally have been running pretty light in the bush. Low fuel. no panniers or boxes etc. so maybe that helps too. (and i love your bike too mate, i wish id have gotten the white. looks mad when its dirty.)

DirkZ, thanks. ill do some real looking this weekend and learn how deep i can go, then assess the stage 2. sounds like its a done deal.

I will let you know how i go.
Thanks again for the input.
