Givi Engine Guards Cracking
Anybody else have this problem? I fitted mine a week after purchasing my X, only for the ******s to crack on the top part right next to the bolts(cant get any more tech than that!)after 2 weeks. I took them back to the dealer who welded them up for me, apparently they have the discretion to do so. Low & behold they cracked AGAIN after a month so they fitted some new ones
Anyway, my bikes been in storage through winter & I have only started using her for the past month or so. I took her for a service only to see that they had cracked yet again they've been welded....again, so I can only guess when they will do a wobbly on me for the fourth time?! The bike was standard when the first set cracked, and has CCC's with the second failed guards, and now the toe rags are claiming the cans are causing excesive vibration and causing the cracks, which is obviously ******!! I'm now considering getting some new guards.....am I the only unlucky sod with this crack addiction The circled joint is where it cracks... |

I want to get some crash bars but I think I will give the Givi's a miss if they are cracking! Good luck getting them sorted...
Z Just been thinking about the problem and I don't know how the Givi's are fixed to the frame but the frame must be flexing to make the bars crack? It may be worth trying to get some anti-vibe fixings to replace the standard bolts (I have not seen them for years but we used to use them on water pumps etc that were driven by electric/petrol motors). Maybe you could fit a rubber washer and nylock bolts to it allows the bike frame to flex without flexing the crash bars?

seems that the exhausts are causing some real problems here...if you look really carefully you can see that vibration has resulted in a minor dent in the radiator and some slight hairline cracking of the radiator cowls.i would be tempted just to see if there is some minor marking of the outer side of the crash bars which would look like some paint and metal has fell off due to this vibration.be wary though when you go back for a warranty claim as they are likely to say that you were riding like an arse and binned the fugger...dont be swayed by this destraction, stick to your guns and ask for the blind vehicle examiner to check it and you wont have any problems.

Zambezi....I've been looking into rubber washers but have only tried using a soft rubbery tape between the two guards where they meet in the middle. If I find something better I'll let you know
