As long as you can find a secure way to mount it and keep it dry it will be fine. Motorcycle navigation is obviously better suited, but is vastly overpriced because it's a captive market.

Thanks Pleiades, that's good to know. But I shan't be abandoning my beloved maps yet! STEVE

You can buy 3 car sat navs for a dedicated bike one (but then its waterproof!). I have just started using my iphone with google maps after my son called me a dinosaur and 'who still uses satnavs'. So far I'm impressed and saved myself a bundle. Next is to try some downloadable maps on my iPhone. And one less thing to cart about, as my phone goes with me every where anyway.

If you're planning to use a car Satnav on the Tenere you need to 1/ issolate it from vibrations and 2/ keep the weather out.
I'd suggest putting it in a tank bag's map case/cover. |

I'm leaning this way now. Hardly ever use my old TomTom Rider 2 these days. Did think of replacing it with something more modern, but it just didn't/doesn't seem worth it. Instead I invested in a Twisty Ride waterproof case and charger for use with a RAM mount. I use the maps.me app which does not require 3G/4G or WiFi, all the maps are stored on the phone. You can download them per country, so to save memory you can just get what you need when you need it (and when you can get WiFi access). The maps are free once you've got the app, which was about four quid as far as I remember. It's easy to use, the routing works well and it's quick and simple to use. There are other similar apps out there, but this one works well enough for me. |

I've been using car satnavs for yrs on my bikes, google will get you countless solutions for mounting. The only problem I've ever had is with the see through cover that protects the screen, when that catchs the light it can be a sod to see through. but there are ways to work round that.
