XT660r Fork emulators
Can anyone tell me which Racetech emulators fit the Paioli 43mm forks?

As it happens I've been doing a bit of digging into emulators. I think I'm going to plump for the Australian Teknik version as they seem to have some rave reviews and they do specific ones for the XT, unlike the Racetech which are generic.
The required emulator size is the same for all three XT models and several other Yamahas with 43mm forks. As the XT isn�t imported into the US, you�ll need to either search for the product by part number, or just enter TDM900 in the bike search and the correct emulator part will be listed. Here's a useful sizing guide for emulator fitment from Racetech website: http://racetech.com/html_files/EMULATOR_FITTING.html FYI � The XTs have cupped top damping rods. Note: The Racetech instructions tell you to drill the existing four damping rod holes out to 6mm and add two additional 6mm holes, although subsequently I�ve found out that apparently these emulators work just as effectively by drilling out the four existing holes out to 8mm. Basically all you need to achieve is to make the holes big enough to prevent any damping effect coming from the original damping rod as the emulator will do all the work once fitted. |

I love the engine but the wheels and suspension need some looking at. I had been considering a ktm fork swap but I think the Paioli forks are probably fine but need better damping. The back will get a better shock and a talon wheel

So I fitted Racetech springs and emulators to my 2006 R
Spring: FRSP 375580 rate0.8kg/mm This came with 60mm of aluminium tube to make preload spacers plus 4 washers to put either end of the preload spacer. Emulator: FEGV S4301 Damper rod adaptor: FPEV AD4301 I drilled out the 4 holes in the damper rods to 8mm and added another pair of 8mm holes at 12mm centres and at 90 degrees to the existing. The emulator sits on top of the damper rod. put the new springs in dry and fully extended the tube to measure the distance from the tube top to the spring top. Deducted the height of the tube cap up to the sealing shoulder plus the two washers supplied with the preload tube. This measurement gives you a spacer tube length with zero preload; 45mm for me. Anything you add on will preload the spring; I decided on 10mm. So 55mm length of tube. Filled the forks with 10 weight fork oil up to 125mm of tube top with fork collapsed and emulator valve fitted. Extend forks, fit spring, washer preload spacer washer and fit caps. I could have messed about with measuring sag and I guess I will in time; there's plenty of tube left to make new spacers if I want to change stuff. But on the strength of one test run the difference is amazing. I had previously fitted a Wilburs shock with 15w oil plus 30mm of extra preload on the old springs and that was good albeit a bit stiff. This is much better; feels very plush. I'm very pleased.

Good result.
Emulators do make a huge difference to XT forks and are a well worth the effort/expense. |

Go with the Teknik ones nick at teknik is the only bloke I will let touch my bike suspension. He has great products and amazing customer service.

Skeetly or anyobe whos changed over to the racetech gold emulators....
Have you used the emulators with hyoerpro front springs? What weight oil was used as thys effects rebound speed? Dud you have to tune the emulator to your weight? Cheers all ....and a uk supplier would be ace |

I used the Racetech springs.
With regards to tuning; the emulators came with instructions and I used the recommended settings. Never had to mess with them after. Everything came from PDQ and I was quite happy with the service. https://pdq1.com/ I guess you could use any springs you like but you'd have to mess with the settings. I think I used 10w oil (needs changing again actually!) but you can check further up in my old post. In conjunction with a new Wilburs rear shock (with the right spring for the weight) it transformed the bike. I still have the bike and use it regularly.
