C & S purchase
I need a new C+S sprocket kit and it’s the NEC bike show soon so might see if I can get something there. BUT….I’m rather confused…about, quite a few things.
Chain link The Last chain I fitted to a bike was an “endless” chain so I had to take the swing arm off to fit it, which was fine as it was coming off anyway for a service (Just like my Ten’s will be). So with split links / soft links…are there different types? Chain People seem to rate the DID VXM chain which is X ring (yeah?). But don’t you need a special chain tool for DID chains?? I’ve used EK before and really rated them, seem hard to get now?? The DID chains on Wemoto say they're a 100 links? But the standard (****!) chain is 110? Think i'm going to go 525 as well. Sprocket make I bought a 14T JT and it didn’t fit, its kind of put me of JT sprockets (I know some one else who also had one and it wouldn’t fit). What are my other options? Sprocket size Running a 14T Renthal at the mo, don’t really like it though. It is a bit better when going slow, but quite a bit ****er when going fast. Thinking of maybe going 1 tooth up on the back…kind of a “middle ground”. Sorry for all the questions….. Thanks Phil |

As a chain I can recommend EK chains and the special connection link which you just fit with a wrench and pliers. Great stuff and very easy to fit. |

Phil,
Just purchased a new chain and sprockets after me last chain jumped off. Got the sprockets from here: Rear sprocket: http://www.brakes4u.co.uk/itemdetail.asp?catid=21199 Front Sprocket: http://www.brakes4u.co.uk/itemdetail.asp?catid=21835 Used the code: tradeclub2605 to get 10% off. Have used them before and they are quick to deliver. Ordered monday, delivered tuesday. You can search and get different size sprockets. I also ordered an EK Quadra X-ring chain (on minkeyheads recommendation ). I found this place that I've used before for bits. http://www.bikebitsni.com/index.php?...productId=1066 Al

DID Xring should come with a rivet link (or soft link as some call them) .easy to fit. Push link on with pliers and socket or I use a good clamp with a hollow face. Good kits have the little springs in that you use to not crush the oring too much. Then round of the rivet with a ballpeen hammer (round head) with something heavy behind the back link. Never had issues with JT sprockets and they are my preferred choice. EBay has good prices on c&s kits so check before you buy at the show.

Haven't ordered it yet , no bloody money after paying for a new swing arm but the old set up on the bike was a 15/47 and worked fine and the standard 15 front wears at a normal rate ( 14 wears faster)
OK i loose out on the road a little but its just a little easier on the clutch off road Reason i'm going for a 525 chain kit is "its just beefier " i may not last any longer but logic says it will !!!! My DR650 runs a 525 and trust me that baby gets some hammer and the 525 last twice as long. As for fixing broken chains on trails Phil get a chain spliter EG...... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycle...item1e82505e15 carry a short length of old or new chain and a fist full of split links EG.............. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCLE...item5d44fcae9e Phil

yes yer can buy joining links... only need pliers or a flat blade screw driver to put them on or off.. If you want to be able to fix a broken chain you will need to carry a chain braker..to remove the broken link sections... =====> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tusk-Chain-B...-/271313124214 .

so if i go 1 up on the rear (46T) or 2 up (47T)...how much longer does my chain need to be??
Because the link Ali has given to the EK chain allows you to specify number of links. (could buy a longer chain just to be sure then cut some off??) As i said before the standard DID chain on Wemoto says its 100 links??? (meant to be 110) any one used SunStar sprockets? Cheers |
