Exhaust options and opinions

OK, I am finally going to upgrade my stock exhaust to a single can. Favourite at the moment is an Exan exhaust. Is changing from the stock a simple "plug and play" matter, or are fuelling mods necessary? (My Ten is pretty stock as far as engine and fuelling mods are concerned). My main reason for changing is to save weight and my biggest concen is reducing the fuel efficiency. Anybody able to put my mind at rest? Does a single pipe mean less MPG (or better?). Anything else I should know about single versus stock exhaust? Pretend your explaining it to an idiot, in fact, no need to pretend. Cheers all.

No fuel mods are necessary, but they would be beneficial (even with a stock exhaust). Biggest ball-ache is having to disassemble most of the rear end of the bike to get the old system off - not exactly plug and play!

Fuel economy is very unlikely to get worse (unless you like the new sound so much you cane it everywhere!) Much more likely to get better without the cat and the weight loss.

I just stuck an MTC single on and it only took about 10/15 minutes to strip the rear down enough to remove the exhaust.

remove grey lip with yam badge
remove handles and rack thing
remove light and plate assembly
remove exhaust

thanks was it, about 12 fixings max.

the MTC was LOUD even with the DB killer in so I made another one that was the full length of the inside of the can.

Worked a treat, it kept that nice deep throb but is now nowhere near as anti social as before...unless you give it a big blip of course. Makes my sons jump everytime hahahahahahaha.

Just out of interest, which version did you get? I fancy the look of the X-Black. Also, where did you end up buying it from?

Yes they do look nice.

Is it simply as case of fitting one to the existing pipe or is a new pipe needed. The one in the picture does not look stock?

Also what is the sound like? An MTC is far too loud for where i live so i want somethig quieter.

Any ideas?

Mike

Once its breathing without the cat MPG should go up. I got a MTC single can second hand and while I could not fault the quality I have to take it off again as it sat too close to the OE panniers. Tad too noise too even with the DB killers in.
