Draining the oil tank
Has anyone found a way to drain the oil from the oil tank without getting a jet of hot oil spraying all over the place?
On the upside I discovered that Ariel Bio washing liquid cleans block paving really really well. Sent from my iPhone with a smile |

Draining the oil tank
I use a two foot length of plastic 4" rain water down pipe with a 90 degree bend on the end (nearest the drain plug) which I cable tie on. Shoots all the oil sideways into the collecting tray. Works a treat.

I did my first oil change on the weekend. I chopped an empty 2L milk container to fit into the space. By the time it fills up the spurt has died down and you can slide a bucket under to catch the rest of the drips. I drained the crank case first.
I like the sound of Pleiades elbowed water pipe method. I'll probably do that next time... |

Thanks for the replies guys. I use an old washing up bowl to catch the oil but the force behind the jet of oil caught me out for a second or two before I picked it up. Then as the jet became a dribble it was running onto to sump guard and exhaust pipe and dripping everywhere other than in the bowl. There's gotta be a better way. Pleiades' pipe idea sounds like a good one.
