Wireless Headsets (Rider <-> Pillion)
Ok chaps, looking for any experience you people have with these things.
I'm looking for a wireless set for communication with the missus while we're out touring at the end of July. I do have some criteria; 1) Wireless 2) Rider - Pillion 3) Music connectivity 4) 8hr battery life 5) usable, no use at all if you can't hear anything! I've found two potential products Scala Rider Q1 TeamSet or the Sena SMH10FM. The Sena gets some good reviews, as does the Scala but the one thing that is putting me off the Sena, apart from it's much more expensive that the Scala, is it only claims to be 'water resistant', where as the Scala is IP67. So I'm looking for any experience you lot have, good or bad, even opinions from 'my mate had one' is better than nothing. I've used Starcom1 units before and they are by far the best thing I have used, but Mrs GULG doesn't like the wires, so a wireless setup it is. And at close to 500 it's a little excessive for what I need. I've looked at reviews on the HUBB, ABR, Tiger forums (of which there are many!), but to be honest, I'm not wholly sure I trust many of the contributors. I know here, I'll get honest feedback Over to you ???

My riding instructor and the license Assessors all use the Sena kits and I can tell you the clarity and ease of use are fantastic. I have never tried anything else but rain or shine the lessons went on with no regard to water proofing.
So I am looking at the Sena smh10 for solo music/phone connectivity and dual for the missus. Not sure if that helps! Matt |

I have a scala, which I use solo. The speaker if very poor however I did a mod and changed it out with a better speaker from a headset I got on Amazon.
(there was a good mod video on you tube to do that) The quality is much better and I can hear the satnav better aswell as the music. I got the scala with my satnav, however if I was to buy a new set of comms I would pay more money and get the top of the range. |

Keith, Speedlime - which Scala was it you used ?
I was a little worried about the speaker quality, but the Q1 uses plug in, replaceable speakers so not sure about that. The battery life is showing as 10 hours,,,, that's a bit different to 5 - different mole=different battery ... possibly? maybe, dunno. I keep seeing good things about the Sena though, and I can't imaging anyone making a bike comms device that can't take a bit water - that would be stupid in the extreme, and certainly not fit for purpose!

I had really good experiences with the Interphone F4. Intercom was 100% reliable up to 100 yards or so, batteries lasted a full day with the intercom in alomst permanent use, connection to the Zumo worked fine. When one of the F4s broke, I "upgraded" to a pair of the newer F5s which support multiple headsets paired up, not just a couple, but I've not been so impressed with the F5. But the F4 was very good. I'd buy them again if I needed new Bluetooth headsets.

I am using the Sena 5 for a while now. Very easy to use even with thick gloves. Does all you are after but the speakers it comes with are no good for music. Communications are cristall clear. There are upgrades for the speakers but as usual at a price. I didn`t bother. Works well over distance too if there is no hill in the way. Handy for finding the wife when she falls off.
