I did consider an AS bash plate, but I had some reservations about how much it would restrict access to parts of the engine I need to get to for servicing. The crash bar part obscures the oil filter housing, the water pump (obviously) and the access cover for the crank nut. That in its self isn't such a problem (it is after all designed to protect them), but it just doesn't look that easy to drop the bash plate down to get at those things if you need to? It fixes at the lower front engine mounts, which aren't the simplest thing to get at in a hurry and you really need to torque them down accurately when replacing them to avoid vibration; having to carrying a torque wrench in your tool kit isn't ideal. The Tenere is already a bit over complicated when it comes to getting at things with its myriad of plastics bits and bobs.
I don't doubt the strength, durability and looks of the AS product, but accessibility is what put me off. The large TT bash plate, for example, is a piece of piss to drop down; two easy access bolts (with captive nuts) to undo at the front and hinged at the back - takes 2 minutes tops. |

You can still do the oil filter with the AS guard but the crank nut is covered. But then again its so far apart to to be an issue.

And You can do oil / filter change with AS bash plate / bars without any problems. No need to take bash plate off.
