Supercharging
Guys,
recently I've read about the concept of supercharging. I think it is a great concept. Looking at the Triumph Rocket III for example, you'll increase the output from stock 140hp to 240hp and 200Nm to 270 Nm by installing a supercharger kit. pretty good i think. obviously the rocket is a massive bike and lends itself well for supercharging. Now, since this is an XT forum, does anyone know if the supercharging concept has been tried on an XT? I'm not a mechanical guy, so maybe there are reasons why this is not possible, but the simple concept of compressing more air in the cylinder to get a stronger performance of the engine should work for any engine, shouldn't it. Cheers and Merry Christmas! |

Never seen a Super Charger on a XT, the STD 660 small end will never take the load of any blown motor.
Fitting a turbo or super charger is a big task, complete mapping including ignition, engine strip down.

You can get tiny super charger kits for the old 5 valve 660 motor (design for the Rhino ATV)...
Mountain Performance You'd never really fit all the gear needed on a bike though. |

007's XTX is over 76hp at the rear wheel with no turbo & would weigh a lot less that that Turbo link.
I know of 3 Turbo XT's but never seen a Super Charges one. One in Brazil http://xt660.com.br/showthread.php?3...60-Turbo-Fotos The Raptor boys have been fitting Turbo's their Raptors long before our 660 motor was even built.

Thanks for all the replies.
It's quite fascinating what has been tried on the XT over the years, even turbo XTs! From what I gather from the greek website, it seems you can generate 75hp by adding the turbo. i wasn't able to find out details of the additional weight that comes with it. might be significant though as Kev indicated and a major drawback. I think adding a turbo or supercharger to increase the output to 75hp with an additional weight of not more than 3kg would be interesting. Should be reasonable priced though. Thanks again! |
