Hi from Gteborg!

Hi all, I've just registered for this forum after reading some threads before when looking for info about the XT series. Seems to be a-looot of know-how in here, so why not join I thought!

Until recently I've ridden an AfricaTwin from -96, I've just parked it at my dads' place for him to sell this spring since I'm leaving for a round the world trip with my girlfriend for half-a-year.

When I get back I'll get myself a XT, but I haven't really figured out which year and type yet.
Thinking of an XT600 from like 90-95, robust, simple and cheap to buy and own.
Don't care that much about the finish since I want to rip some serious gravel with it!

Well, that's about it, I will be dig myself into some more specs and tech about the XT from now on to get my mind straight on the type I really want.

If anyone would feel like it, you're welcome to post a reply to this thread for some pros' and cons' about the different models (including the new Tener, Z), and common problems with the Yamahas' engines or quality issues. I'll be sure to read them!

See you around!

hi and welcome to the forum.

if your thinking of buying a bike to do a round the world trip the tenere range has been tried and tested. but really it's up to you and money as to what you want to go for. spend less on an older tenere which should be modded up for over landing and with the money you save you can spend on the trip, repairs etc or you go for the newer tenere which will cost more but should handle better, need less repairs etc and you should still get a bike out of it at the end that you can use.

Hi and welcome sicarious.

If finances permit I'd recommend anything with the fuel injected Motori Minarelli 660cc engine (eg. Tenere from 08). There are plenty of high mileage examples about without major issues.
