Hand grips slipping.

Hi all my oxford heated grips are sliding around my handle bars.

any idea how to stop this as its highly irritating having to slide them back round all the time and also dangerous.

Cheers all.

Sliding Grips

Hi Chris, I had the very same problem before on a Honda Transalp fitted with Oxford heated grips, the garage had used their own glue which was supposed to be brilliant, but as soon as it went to the third setting or heated up enough the grips started twisting about F**kin useless, anyway ive just put Roxter heated grips on my Z and i used the 'super glue' that came with it and ive had no problems whatsoever, i would heat them up and remove them with a small thin blunt ended screwdriver to assist which you probably wont need, clean the bars up and score them to give the glue and rubber something to key/adhere to and use the superglue, line everything up as when these go on you have less than 2 seconds to make any minor movements before they set rigid.

cool idea, however is there any way of doing it without gluing them to my bars? for example incase I want/need to replace the bars at any point?

cheers

Chris

You could safety wire them on MX style?

Here's an article that may be of interest...

Superglue works for me, dry fit everything first though to make sure you are happy with the line of the wires, throttle opening etc. no second chances but no more slipping either :-)

Many years ago it was common practice to use hairspray, (I jest you not...), the spray on lacquer allows a short period of time to fit and adjust the grips then as the solvent evaporates the lacquer hardens and adheres to both the grip and the handlebar/throttle tube depending on which grip you are fitting. Not as permanent as Superglue but better than Evo-stick or similar impact adhesives which tend to soften once hot.

Cheers

Chris if they the oxford grips i know they are quite solid so you wouldnt be able to lock wire them on to the bars. That and the grips again are that solid that they fit on the bar not too badly so only way is to glue them on. Had a few different ones on my R after grips failing and controllers failing. I used a two part epoxy resin and just removed grip, clean out old glue from inside grip, cleaned down bar, applied a thin coating around bar (its hard to do this so its a guessing game as to how much you need!!!), push grip on bar quickly and get into a possition where cables are in the way of brakes etc. Hold there for about 2-3 mins, leave for about 1-2hrs to set. Tester for me was two min ride and few hard brakes and wheelies ie when you try and twist/pull/push bars the worst. If they slip start over with more glue, if they stick well done go and ride you bike some more.

If you get it right you can twist the grip off with some hot water/grips on full heat then twist off with both hands but its hard work
