Rail fare costs more than Tenere on 12 mile commute commute
Even being as sneeky as I can, my rail fare is 235 a month for an 11 mile commute that door to door takes 45 minutes,
A March 2011, 150 mile ex demo Tenere in my favorite blue is 202 a month... and door to door it takes 18 minutes plus de-kitting. 480 miles a month is about 30 quid in petrol right? ... Ive been given the gift of time, an extra 50 minutes with the kids every day. No more walking a mile to the train station, no more sitting in sweltering conditions in a packed train, with people coughing on you. No more walking a mile from the train station, No more more missing the train, running another mile to the next station. No more trains delayed lost or simply ******ed, due to leaves on the track, Admittedly snow will be interesting. But it all adds up in my book. will update And if I every get around to emigrating this is ideal bike for it, get wifey a Rangie and sorted. |

I think you British, Irish and European riders are absolute legends the way you ride around in what are often filthy conditions, and consider it normal.
I hope your Tenere serves you well, mate. |

that's because it is.... When the sun comes out most riders will start complaining about the heat in motorcycle gear!!
It would be nice to suffer the heat for a long period though. photographicsafaris - you forgot to mention, even when the bike is paid off, you'll still have some value in it, and your travel will be even cheaper!! (although, between you and me, you did forget the cost of serving, parts and insurance - but best to keep that to yourself )

Forgot the cost of servicing parts ... Have you added up the mods costs? I certainly forgot those and the cost of fuel on those French tours, ferry costs and tyres
Yep absolutely not included them! But the biggest cost will be a range rover for the wife and Kids in the emigration trek south! Still 2 years to buy it all As for you Aussies complimenting us poms on our durability it's cos we have Olympian spirit.... Can I say that or is it still raw? Yes we're a little bit like man with **** in peanut butter. But every one of us dream of an outback tour and it's on your doorstep, lucky lucky so and so's |

About time you came good at the Olympics...

We do have it good for our ADV riding here. Never far from the bush in most places, however we do have millions of dumbarse roos, emus, pigs, wombats that seem determined to commit suicide by moto. I live about 10 miles out of town & there are often dead roos on the roadside even this close to town. This makes the evening commute home a very cautious one indeed. If you are planning emigrating this far south, forget the Rangie. In the outback it's pretty much all Toyota & a few Nissans. Nothing else lasts. Went for a look at a Discovery 4 the other day. Very nice, but unfortunately not suited for Oz. Dealer: "Are you planning to use it in the bush?" Punter: "Yes..." Dealer: "........." |

+1 on snow riders...
PhotoSafari,
You blokes in Europe are legends. I live in Queensland, and as it's almost spring, I've only just started commuting on the bike again. All winter I've been driving a gas-guzzling LandCruiser... Yep, I'm soft compared to you blokes.... Your original post sounds like the pitch I used to justify buying my XT to the Missus... "Think of the money we'll save in fuel." Enjoy your commute (you'll arrive in a good mood every time) & the extra time with the kids... (My 6yo son made me put this in) & this one... |

Not all of us! I too admire the guys who ride all year round. Me, I'm afraid the bike stays in the garage when the temp drops to around 5 deg C.
