Some lunchtime reading
Here's a report the IAM have released on a study of new, experienced and advance riders.
It does read like a sales leaflet at times, and clearly it's there to show that extra training changes behaviour, then it goes on to prove that advanced riders ride, like advanced riders!! But worth a read if you've 20 minutes to waste. http://www.iam.org.uk/images/stories...mon_Report.pdf

Interesting Gulgo, daughter has now embarked on her motorcycling career (despite me trying to steer in the direction of a nice Fiesta). Once she's passed her test I'm thinking of using some form of bribery to get her to do IAM. I'd rather she learnt this biking stuff the smart way than the hard way.
She really likes the XT660X ( having come to this conclusion without realising it's what I had, she loves the twin exhausts) but insurance premiums are silly compared to bikes of similar cc, performance and value so she may have to get a couple of years NCB before she can join this forum! |

You could just buy her the course........ they do gift voucher type thingies. or, BikeSafe is a great introduction if they run it in your area.

if she gets her test out of the way before May, bring her along to the Lakes and she can see the bikes in the flesh. Of course, we'll make sure Steve is locked up in his tent before anyone leave him alone, don't want any repeats of previous years.....

Cheers GULG, at 139 for the Skills for Life course is a bargain will get her that. She's been off twice already, so that is a small price to pay for my sanity/nerves/heart!
Not sure WHO you can be thinking of that's a member here without an XT, or indeed who would have swapped one. Or come to think of it has never had one... We're planning to come to the Lakes meet from Scotland (or possibly Isle of Man) but if that doesn't turn out to be the case and she's passed her test we'll bring her along.... after all meeting you lot may turn her off motorcycling where me supplying car driving lessons failed |

I ask because your comment about insurence premiums struck me. I had an xtr at 18 with only 1 yrs NCB and I only paid about 40 pounds per month. Dunno if its simply because one is classed as an SM and the other a enduro.

She really prefers supermoto or enduro style, but insurance premiums are out of the window. As an example an XT350 (yes from the early 90s) or an XR250 (old and modern of similar spec) are about 1800/annum insurance. However a Fazer 600 or Triumph SpeedFour are about 1000..... For around 700 she can have an ER5 or a CBf250, but she'd rather gnaw her own leg off lol. To quantify these prices are searches made 'for comparison' e.g. same details pumped into one of the generic search engine to give an idea of what said bike will cost. May well be that we can drive the price down more, but we're using the generic searches as marker for now. |

Thats appauling! I only paid 500 per annum for my vfr800 crazy stuff! When i get my ten its going to cost me 50 a month i still thinks thats high considering I now have 5 yrs no claims etc. Compared with a quote for a 1000cc stage 1 tuned harley D to sit on my drive way with no security at 240 quid per annum it kinda makes you wander where the robbing gits get their statistics from.
Hopefully she will find something affordable and enjoyable to ride. Anyhow sorry for tealeafing your thread GAS! Think we are striving a lil off topic..... On topic I as of yet haven't completed an advanced course as at first I didnt see the point of spending all that money for it to do jeff all to my insurence! However that kind of thought is nieve and narrow minded! Over the last few years (yes its taken that long! Freaking cash flow!) Ive been saving in order to get myself on one and will do one this year!

She's paying 500 this year for an Xr125 (that's a CG125 in traily guise for anyone that doesn't know, hardly a high performance beasty). That was bargain basement insurance, next cheapest was over 800!
