Exclamation Cockpit mods

Right guys,

I am aching to get some new bars! Not because there is anything wrong with the standard XT ones, I just want something that looks a bit cooler.

Keen to get some Renthals or Pro-taper or even Easton. I would also like to get some bark-busters.

Who has changed their bars? Did you have to get new or modified clamps?

Anyone reccomend a particular brand or type of 'bark-buster' too?

Thanks!

Ps: What's the diameter of the standard bars? I know I should just go measure but....

The standard ones will be 7/8". Any Renthal or similar bars with a cross brace/bar pad will be the same.

'Fat Bars' or taper bars will be 1" in the middle (at the clamps) and 7/8" at the ends. You'll need to replace the clamps or fit adapters if you go for these (although the adapters may come with some brands of bar)

For handguards I use Barkbuster Storms, because they have massive weather/flying-bits-of-rock protection, and a fairly hardcore ally spine. That's for a Tenere that gets used all year round and off-road, so you might want something a bit more discreet/stylish on an XTX

Again you need to decide what bars you want, then make sure you buy your handguards with the appropriate fitting kit for 7/8" or 1" bars.

Bars and handguards

So what bars did you choose and what is your experience???? I still have the standard bars and I have fitted the Yam/Acerbis handguards. These guards are strong and durable and fit easily although the instructions are awful, they come complete with at least 2 bits that you do not need. And pics please so we can see the bars????

Sorry for the super slow reply!

I went with ProTaper SE bars and EGO Barkbusters. I really like them but it was a bit of a squeeze with the mounts etc... Will post a pic.

Just for info for anyone else reading this thread - 'Fatbars' are actually 1 1/8th inch diameter around the clamp area (not 1" as stated above)...

I'd also second what Uber' says regarding the hand protectors - by far the best I've found are the Barkbuster Storm... although the plastic KTM guards are also surprisingly robust (for protectors without a metal brace), good value at around 40 a pair, and will fit a Tenere with the bar ends till in place...

To be fair, that's actually me seconding your recommendation from a while back

As for the plastic ones, maybe on a tiddler bike, but most of the people I know who have them fitted seem to get through a lot of levers. I've lobbed the Ten several times hard enough to bend the ally spines of Barkbusters, and indeed the Renthal bars themselves, but I have *never* broken a lever.
