How to get the fuel warning to come on later
It's really nice to have a fuel warning light on a bike, however as soon as it turns on my subconscious starts to bug me to get more fuel. The problem is that the light comes on already after 9 liters of fuel is gone. This leaves me with 6 liter reserve which is way too much in my opinion. Is there any easy way to adjust this value by setting or by modding? 3l left would be optimal (50km range even if driving hard).

It's the same on the Tenere - approx 6L reserve, although the Tenere has a much larger tank of course, so the reserve is essentially just a third of the total capacity...
To be honest, it's kind of academic when the light comes on, if you know how much range you have once the light is on? (ie. 100kms rather than 50kms based on your calculations above)... I think possibly the reason they have such a large reserve is that in more remote areas (even in mainland Europe), fuel stations are less prolific, so you might need more than a 50km 'reminder'? Jx |

Well, the problem is, as I mentioned psychological, not practical. The light is so bright that it will be visible constantly in my peripheral vision, so I will all the time think that the fuel is running out. Anyway, any help in modding is welcome and I'll look into this myself too. Perhaps there is a simple enough way to change the reserve amount.

I doubt there is a way of changing the point in the tank where it comes on, so here's my suggestion:
1) Learn what your tank range is, and go off the trip counter. 2) Small piece of black insulating tape over the warning light

F-trip
This F-trip also irritates the hell out of me
Makes you wonder how far till you stop, even if you know your consumption and range I usually fill up and then find I only have to add 13 to 14 liters of fuel A modification would be welcome |

I did point one, but point two used masking tape so when the light comes on its not soooo bright but you can still see it if you forget to reset your trip when refuelling

Reserve on XTR
My fuel reserve light comes on at about 187km, then it comes off & on till about 215km when it stays on.
I reckon it's a good idea to reset one of your trip meters every time you fill up so that you can learn when the light will come on & you know EXACTLY how far you've travelled. A fuel gauge would be nice psychologically but the reset trick should help ease your worried mind. |

Fuel Light - Again
Had the bike for about two months now and have the same problem - or so I just found out...
Fuel light comes on, on my way home from work (about 40kms to go) so I ride it for a bit and go to fill up.... Thought something must be wrong as I can only JUST get 10L in there and its already full.. So you telling me that I have at least 5+ Litres still in the tank so thats another 50% on top of what I have already done.... Phew... And here I was thinking I wouldn't make it home. Hmm - OK - So I guess I will be reading mileage now not fuel guages. Cheers Marc |

It is a bit of a nuisance that orange light -- but I know I have got approx 5 litres or 50 miles left (actually 56 because I have ran out) on my XTR when the light comes on before I have to get fuel.
