Cush Drives already?
Hi Guys,
after getting by Ten ready for my trip in 2 weeks i tried and tested everything just to make sure. In the last couple of days she started to run a bit rough and since yesterday the surging got annoying again. Also in and out of corners is a pain with the bike jerking a lot. So after coming home today i tried to move the sprocket holder forward and back by hand and it easily moves 2mm. (My 86 Ten has the same setup and the same rubbers. When i bought her 7 years ago it had a Kev mod in it. So the issue was already known then! It is still in and works just fine.) I suspect the cush drive is knackered. Problem is she has only done 1900 miles and 5 months of ownership. Too late to go to a dealer today and i am going to be working away for the next 2 weeks. Only got the Sunday when i am back and leave Monday morning. Here is the question: If i temporarily use the Kev mod will it effect the guarantee when i get back to the dealer? Is 1900 miles a record? Should i bother with a replacement? The mods seem to last longer anyway. Rob |

I managed to get the dealer to give me a new set under warranty at 8k. I had padded them out with push bike tubes but they were breaking up. 2k later Inc lots of off road and there was 8-10mm of play!!!!
I've done the mod properly this time using M/C tubes and it's rock solid. As long as your rubbers are just compressed and not breaking up I'd be inclined to mod them, new rubbers will soon wear and you're back at square 1 |

Likewise, why change a part that is going to wear like this again. The old fashioned inner tube fix is probably far more long term. Might be time for Yam do get their act together...

Hi,
opened her up this afternoon. As expected the cush drives were totally to shot. Did the old inner tube fix. Still was not enough. The fit was not really tight. So ended up with an extra layer of tubing between the metal dividers and the larger blocks. Nice and tight now but still fairly easily pushed together. See how it goes. As long as it lasts the estimated 2500 miles of the trip. Did not last that long from new afterall. Rob |

I found that the cush rubbers will ware in the first few 1000 miles .
If you pack them out with some old innertube cut to size you should cure the problem I did this at 3000 miles and now at 12000 and all is well . Dazzer |
