Rear brake while standing on the pegs
Up until last weekend I have always been happy controlling my speed when standing on the pegs by 1. being in the right gear 2. using or not using the throttle. This failed to be a successful approach when I was on a rocky descent. At least it has shown the xt is a tough bike.
I was practicing around town this morning, trying to use the rear brake and it was right down out of the way. What do other people do about this? Is it just a case of re possitioning the brake? Someone I know who has a 1200 GSA has a little fold down extender that raises the height by 1cm so that it is easier when riding standing up. Is there anything like this? Any advice appreciated. I set my brake at position somewhere in between, so it is (just) good enough for brakeing when sitting or standing. Other is just some practice, to get used to and gain maximum control.

I'd second that. Find a happy middle ground where you can opperate it standing and sitting and just practice. I stand up manovering into my driveway each day. For me it keeps my technique up to scratch.
