XT660Z 2010 will not start - need help
Hi All,
I washed my bike after attending the Tenere Tragics ride the other weekend. Normal hose (not Karcher) with soapy water and sponge. A really good wash ie trying to get into most nooks and crannies. Now the ****** will not start. When the key gets to the on position, you can hear the petrol pump (or whatever that 2 second start up noise is) then press the start button. It tries to start but doesn't have any spark. ie it cranks but nothing. Left it for a day to dry, taken out spark plug and all ok. Have cranked over with spark plug out and there is spark. No water in air filter / area. Still no go. Any thoughts? Brocksamoyed XT660Z 2010 |

If you've got a spark and a good battery, could be fuel. Is there fuel being fed from the tank?

Fixed
Yo - After three days of proding, playing and I think most importantly, DRYING, I got it started.
In the future, no way will I use my high pressure cleaner and hand cleaning will be done less vigorously. Thx for your help Brocksamoyed XT660Z |

If your bike was rendered useless by a hosepipe then you have a problem somewhere, and you really need to get it resolved.
I wash my Tenere, and have done since day one (it's nearly 3 now) with a Karcher without any problems at all. At times I've had the bike tank high in water too (we have some roads that double as rivers here) without any issues you are describing.

It is possible that some water got into the connector that powers the fuel injector perhaps?
It is one of those waterproof connectors, however, I had an issue where the engine cut out, and after rummaging around, cleaned up the terminals and clicked home that connector, no more problems... The connector is on top of the FI, under the rear edge of the tank. Jx |

Start the bike up and wash it like you did last time if it cuts out again I'd be wanting to fix it otherwise you might get stuck somewhere.
Did the same thing with my TTR started it up and carefully squirted water on the various HT bits till it konked out. Turned out to be the HT Cable/Coil joint, impossible to see by eye but the insulation had just gone enough to allow water in and no spark. |

This is exactly the
problem I had. The bike would only start when pulling the throttle.
Still no idea on what happened...
