How to clean DNA Stage 2 filter

Hello all and greetings from Malawi!

The bike is doing fine but it seems that everything else around it breaks down, such as GPS bracket and the silencer - which is made by X-Racing. I've had many problems with it so although it's cheap and nice looking, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Well anyway, those of you who got DNA Stage 2 filters, have you cleaned them with any other cleaner than DNA's own? I had a small bottle of it with me but after being opened once, rest of it just vanished or leaked to the bottom of the pannier. DNA seems to warn people from using any other cleaners than their own so one wouldn't damage the filter. It sounds like BS but just to be sure, what do you reckon I should use for cleaning the filter here in Africa, where there's no DNA dealer in each village? I do still have some original oil left.

I use the K&N cleaner & oil as the DNA cleaner is not availiable from my local bike shops.

A light cleaning with petrol I suppose as you'll not find anything else in Africa.
Not recommend but if needs must. I've cleaned k & n 's that way in the past.

and it's not BS at all, you can clean the filter with lukewarm water, however it needs the regenerating grease to cover the filter compound once again after it's fully dried, I know it's a spray grease designed to trap the harmful dust particles from passing through the filter paper compound and of course I don't know the formula but in the absence of the real thing, I suppose try some other light spray grease stuff like wd40 or other. Don't quote me on this I am just assuming.

Over the years ive used lots of this type of filter on several different things from bikes to tractors and lawn mowers to land rovers. Ive always cleaned them with petrol then re-oiled with the lightest/thinnest oil Ive had at the time. Im not saying this is the best approach but in my opinion its not done my equipment or my pocket any harm.

Same, but if your out in africa i would agree with Captmoto, some warm water and possible a small amount of degreaser, and if as a last option some WD40. What ever you do just make sure to allow it to dry in.

I cleaned the filter yesterday with light degreaser/warm water solution and a paint brush and the filter didn't break into bits so thanks for the tip. For oiling I had some of that original DNA oil left so all is good now.

Right now I'm in Lusaka, Zambia and the distance table is saying it's 3100 km to Cape Town. But I reckon that I'm gonna do at least 4000 km.

You will be able to get bike parts when you enter South Africa, you won't find much in Zimbabwe or Zambia.
