What glue to use on windshield?
Hello inmates!
I've purchased an aftermarket windscreen which came with a gasket (the original windscreen is rounded on the edges, this one it is not) but no glue. How to mount this gasket on the windshield? Use glue or no glue? What glue, if so? Thank you!

How bad does it look without the trim around the edge, its just that getting the trim to stick on so that it looks neat is hard to do as you have some tight corners, if you use a conntact glue it will not allow you to position the trim, if you use super-glue it makes plastic turn white, The problem is you have internal and external corners so you can not pull the trim tight and just super-glue the joint. I think it will look better with no trim, as in my opinon that black plastic/rubber finnisher is very 1980"s looking.
I did work in a body shop for 20 years and i do understand your problem. V-tec |

V-tec: from the way you're explaining things, one can tell you've done some work in this area. Thank you!

Looks very much like the Metal Mule one I fitted to mine. Warm the edging strip slightly first by leaving it in a bowl of warm water for a while and apply it with no glue. When it's warm it will easily form around the curves make sure you push it well into the internal corners. Try not to stretch the strip because it will shrink back if yo do. If when you've done it you leave it a while before trimming off the excess you'll be able to see if it shrinks or not. Mines been on for over a year now and has never moved yet.
As a side note the screen on my f650 didn't have a trim strip and at night the whole edge had a very distracting glow a bit like a big optic fibre. Perhaps this is what the strip prevents. |

I have to confess I didn't add the trim to my MetalMule screen and haven't noticed a problem. That said I couldn't get it to fit cleanly on the tighter corners might try again with the tip from lolgeoff.
Any thoughts if the trim assists with reducing the turbulence? I would have thought it would do something as it stands proud of the edge a bit |

I've got a Metal Mule screen, and I just fitted it without any edging. It looks, and works, fine. I'm not sure if any of the aftermarket ones come with a rolled edge like the original screen... shame.
