Idle RPM decrease- cause and effect?

I've noticed that during the last couple of days the idle RPM of my bike has dropped.
It used to be around 1500 and now it's at about 1000-1200.
I know that I can increase it back by using the idle speed screw, but I was wondering what could be the cause and possible effects of this.
time and money are a bit short lately so I'm less than enthusiastic to go over the the dealer.

Any thought will be welcomed.

Mine did that after my trip to France, I just put it down to the idle screw undoing it self abit due to vibration and just wound it in again

ALSO dirty air filter, I have just checked mine it looked clean on the outside/inside but it was fairlly dirty when I took it out and cleaned it lots fine brown dust washed out (DNA Filter)

same thing here. 1000 - 1100 RPM. Yesterday screw the idle screw half rotate in and now 1400 RPM (like the manual says)

I cleaned the filter (DNA as well) yesterday but haven't placed it back yet (running with the OEM for now).
But I fail to see how a dirty filter will cause the idle RPM to drop.
I recon that since the mixture is rich, the RPM will increase. No?

If it's cold - then yes, just like a choke system.

If it's warm, then no - the engine will effectively flood. Be careful with this as the extra petrol can wash the bore and that's not good!

I've decided that I'm just gonna increase the idle RPM with the idle screw and talk about it with the dealer during the next service (another 5K Km, should be 2-3 months).
And that raises the next question: How the hell can you get to the screw?
It seems that the airbox is obstructing any access to it. What am I missing?
