Tenere suddenly dying while under power

Hi,

I recently had an instance where my bike died on me while under power. I was gearing down to go around a corner and suddenly lost all power and the bike coasted to a halt. I switched it off and it fired right back up again. I thought it was weird but figured I might have knocked the sidestand with my heel and the switch triggered but now I'm thinking it could be something more sinister. The reason I say this is because a number of the local SA guys have had the same thing happen to them.

Have any of you guys experienced a similar problem?

Was reported similarly in German XT board. We encountered sudden engine off when rolling along slowly and gearing up from 1 to 2. It happened while passing over the neutral position, I guess. I experienced it once or twice within 5000km. Everybody was absolutely sure there was no user fault and no engine stall. We suspect some mistaken sensor (clutch/neutral?) switching off power. Engines were warm, no cold start issues, no potholes, no offroad, no vibration and nothing else one could think off. Appears to happen at gears 1 and 2 only. So, this sounds quite normal to me

I have 2005 XTX, now at 50,000km. This mysterious stall happens to me about every couple of months. The engine cut out is always when changing gear while moving. Very weird, and I can't replicate it on demand. No apparent problems with the bike and its happened since day one.

Mine does it every now & then, mainly when hot. Just make sure your idle speed is set between 1400/1500 RPM, this will help.

Tiktech

I have recently completed Ruta 40 in Argentina (Northwards), crossed Bolivia and came South through Chile clocking 12,000 Kms in six weeks. My beloved XTZ developed a sudden dislike for power between 4800 and 5100 RPM losing all power until 4800 rpm was achieved by the unrequired "govenor" A few sphincter clenching drops in power while accelerating/overtaking made me visit the main dealer in Santiago. No fault could be found. I have recently experienced the loss of all electrics too from rainwater ingress. Not too worried about the latter but the former seems mysterious. I would appreciate any suggestions as Yamaha are not well represented on the Falkland Islands where I live.

Ooohhhhoooo

Now I saw this twice, just after fitting the PowerCommander, always coming to a stop and pulling the clutch. I checked my throttle sensor and injector connections and it's not happened since. I put it down to an iffy connection (and it was well below 0c when I done the work).

It's not happened again, so I'm happy with the iffy connection prognosis.

I have in the past suffered this on older bikes and it's always been down to the sidestand switch, quick chop and it's sorted!
