Unhappy Have I been sold a donkey?

Yes. I Have concerns.

The bike was sold to me as being in showroom condition, only been ridden in the dry, by a regular customer who changes his bike every year or so and has something different.

Whilst looking over the bike originally, I noticed that the back LH indicator was broken...or rather the number plate mount, onto which the indicator is attached. "He must have caught it on something". They replaced this before I finally purchased the bike.

However, today I notice two things.

1/ The RH rear indicator, is very loose, and filling full of road toot and moisture - I think its broken where the body of the indicator joins the more flexible stem...now wouldn't you think they would notice that whilst rebuilding it with the new number plate mount!!!

AND REALLY WORRYING...

2/ the gear shift has a load of play. The spline itself moves in and out of the casing by 2-3mm, and the lever itself is loose on the spline, exagerating the movement even more. I went to at least tighten the lever clamp, and I can't get it any tighter.

What are people's thoughts? KEV HELP PLEASE!??

Not sure on the indicator, but the gear lever clamp can be loose after a drop as it wears the splines and doesnt allow them to hold fully tight causing the wobbly lever feel. You might want to try and take the lever off and give it a good clean and put it all back together again as dirt might also be causing the clamp not too tighten properly

If you bought it from a dealer bring it back and make them rectify the things you are concerned about. Any half decent dealer will sort it out.

ditto, if you bought it as new you would expect it as new. Remind them that you are entitled to a full refund under trhe consumer act if the product is below new standards. Make sure you speak loud in the showroom, scaring other potential buyers is a salesman nightmare and he will make sure you are kept happy and quiet in no time. Always works.

Anyone know anything about this machine's history??

- it did belong to er...ah the post has been deleted 'cos we hijacked Wozzer's thread. Capt Moto, can you recall? Ah Chekamus, I remember now. So, what do we know? I'll PM him too.

Incidentally Chekamus did comment that he sold it because he needed the cash - so that would counter the new bike every year comment from the dealer, wouldn't it!?

Hmmm I've been stitched. ****.

No I can't but now you are confusing me, did you buy the bike as new or second hand?

If it was second hand then... just ask the dealer to rectify all faults. If it was new DEMAND it.!

Bought it second hand "as new, show room condition, only been ridden in the dry, etc." from Brian Bower Motorcycles.

2400 miles from new, 09 registered.

Chekamus said that it was his, I recall who it was now.

Anyway, I'll contact them tomorrow and see what they say.

I was really just trying to find out if there should be any movement on the spline, in and out of the gearbox (slight up and down play too).
