TPS Recall
I am starting this thread because for some reason the other one is closed and I have some information to share with all.
Frame numbers for recall as follows; 04 bikes, DM014000001678 to DM014000009510. 05 bikes DM014000009511 to DM014000015015. You will receive a letter (got mine this morning) assuming that Yamaha have your details as the keeper, if you bought second hand and did not notify Yamaha you will need to contact your dealer or Yamaha. .... and it is safe to assume that both of you have purchased the bike in the UK and same is also registered and driven in the UK, right?

Yes Alan you are very right, mine was a
retorical question related to the other RECALL thread where it has been argued that this recall by YAMAHA UK will affect other European Countries and my argument is that Yamaha UK will only recall UK sold bikes and not those in other European countries, i.e. if France will honour this recall then Yamaha France will call their owners as UK is doing it here.
Once again as it has been published in MCN and on Yamaha Motors UK website this recall so far is only for UK. Just to prove my point here is the recall letter stating it's originated by none other than YAMAHA MOTOR (UK) LIMITED |

I have called yamaha swe and them told me also @ the tps sensor and the ecu recall . In the same time i heard @ i uk ecu is diffret in the tek prog. butt he cudent tell me the differens IF this is intresting for u to tuming xts..more hp ??? chekit upp. So i vill SEEE when i got my letter sorry for my bad spellig i can speak US/UK but not so god in writing a Wery tierd 36 h %-/:snooze[1]: //Robin |
Got my letter from Yamaha today about the TPS recall...Norway is always a little bit behind......

Is this a worldwide problem, as in will my XTX also have this problem???

We believe it is a worldwide issue (or at least in the countries where the bike is sold) Check with your dealer.

I had to laugh today, got a letter from Yamaha Australia, RECALL TPS/MC. 4 months later then Europe at least we got half the recall, no signs of a new ECU. Booked in on Wednesday.

I put my bike back to standard today before taking it in for the recalled TPS. I stood around for 40 mins as they could not find the TPS that was ordered for me. Finally they found one & fitted it, the bike was handed back to me, all is good now I was told. I asked about the ECU recall & was told there is no recall for ECU's on any XT660X, I know better. Well I'm off now, I did not even get to the end of their driveway & my bike stalled, restarted & got to the end of the street the bike stalled again. Gee I said to myself this new part works well. Anyway I went home, I have reset the TPS to my settings & reset the idle from 1270RPM to 1450RPM & now it's all good. What I have found with the new TPS it's made by Mikuni 466x11 A1, it has a different scale for reading the throttle angle. I'm not sure about where they are going with this new TPS. If the TPS is set to 18 when the throttle is closed the max throttle reading is only 95%. If you set the TPS to read 100% the closed throttle reading is 23 on the dash that's out of the idle spec, if set to any of these readings it will be out of range either end. I will write to Yamaha technical to see what they have say. Also if you have a Power Commander & have had the recalled TPS fitted you need to reset throttle position for the map, other wise the Power Commander will be giving the incorrect fuelling at all throttle ranges. This is due to the different throttle angle scale from the new TPS. Resetting the throttle. Set the bike up with the USB & power supply, make sure the ignition is on as well, get the map, click on Power Commander tools, click on set throttle position. Then a new screen will appear for the throttle setting, click on reset, twist the throttle all the way to full throttle slowly then back to the rest position, then click ok to save. |

Kev is it nessesery to connect the battery power adapter ,i thought once the ignition is switched on then this will supply power to the power commander .

Still waiting for phone call from dealer to say TPS is in....from 3 months ago!
Haven't worried too much as have only ridden it twice in 3 months as its winter and the car is too inviting but reading thread i'll don't think i will bother chasing up if its going to make it worse....seems to running ok with stage 1 and 2 filters and Carbon Can Co exhausts Only time mine has ever stalled was when i disconnected AIS last summer |

Are we talking doing this in one smooth throttle opening like accelerating from a standing start ,(theoretically ) im going to attempt doing this in the next couple of days and i dont have my dyno map saved to disc , so as you can imagine i dont want to loose it . |

It should read 0, open & close the throttle it should count up to 100% then go back to 0. If it reads a number besides 0 when the throttle is closed, the throttle position is out & needs to be reset. Ahh gotcha , well i will give it a bash ,i must say though the only thing i noticed when they changed the TPS was that is run smoother .

Ok heres the run down ,connected the laptop to the power commander ,but the figure i was getting with the throttle position was - - - - not zero ,so what i did was re-set the throttle position then run through the instructions you gave Kev , job done,seems to have a better throttle response now . cheers kev |

Before someone asks, I did recheck all the settings & fitment. The installation is correct & my testing of the TPS I could not fault it. I will update you with the out come. |
After my 3rd TPS and it's still cutting out, Yamaha have decided to take my bike off me
again and ride it themselves to see if they can get it to cut out or atleast display the symptoms I describe. No doubt it'll be good as gold for the ride.
