They look good Kev, but is there any advantage apart from being able to run tubless tyres?

Easier to fix a puncture in a emergency ,mind you its not worth 1500 for the privilege.

They "quote"
Great looks
110% improvement on rigidity;
15% weight reduction per set;
15% inertia reduction per set.

Its 3,5mm front and 4,25mm rear for the xtx if i want to order them?any one knows for sure?they dont make blue anokside tho,problem with the colour!and 3-4 months delivery,2000 EURO!Any alternatives?

ioannisg 19-06-07 15:12

Oups,sorry!Anodize blue...

adam26 22-06-07 13:40

I've just fitted a set in black, bought them through crescent suzuki ( http://www.crescent-suzuki.com) for 1100 and took around 8 weeks to arrive. i'd actually ordered the 4.5" inch rear rim because this suits the tyre size better but they sent the 4.25" rear and I didn't want to wait another 8 weeks. Overall impresion is they look stunning, bike turns in better but there is more of a speed wobble than before.

Tell me Adam, apart from the stunning looks, do the Marchesini weight less than the OEM? And did you notice any improvement in road handling, stability and even speed? (lighter wheels = more mph)

Also are you running tubeless tyres which also mean less weight without the tube?

adam26 26-06-07 20:48

Capt, i never actually weighed them but there was a noticeable difference. Overall, the bike is more eager to turn in than before but the speed wobble is more noticeable. I'm playing around with suspension geometry and tyre pressures to try and improve this. I haven't noticed a difference in top speed but unlike most, I gear my bike up (less teeth on the back) to improve top speed and cruising.
And having the wheels does mean I now run without tubes, this has thrown another question forward, should I still run std tyre pressues as no advice from Marchesini. I'm still playing with this.

CaptMoto 26-06-07 21:21

The general comments from manufacturers are that without the tube rubbing against your inner tyre casings thus producing extra heat and energy you should be able to achieve greater grip and better rolling resistance at lower pressures and that alone will be a great improvement on your high speed weaving issue, try anything from 29psi down and report back. Cheers

adam26 28-06-07 10:28

Thanks Capt, I'd been going the other way as my sportsbike runs higher tyre pressures. I'd been playing with 32psi on the front and 34 on the back. Will try this though.

Is it 5.00 mm to wide for the back wheel?A 160-60 17 tire will feet correct?

adam26 10-07-07 11:31

I've got 4.25 (which is std fit) but i'm told the optimium size for a 160 tyre is 4.5. I wanted the 4.5 but they sent the 4.25. My concern about going bigger than 4.5 would be chain clearance but they do list bigger sizes.

Kev 10-07-07 12:04

Also a wider rear wheel will effect the front end handling.

ioannisg 11-07-07 15:42

Thanks for the respond adam and kev.The 5.00mm is not optimum and will effect the front end but it will feet with with a 160-60 tire?Or do i need a 180-60 for example?It better to run with or without tubes?By the way ,your xtx adam it looks really great!U have pimp it realy nice!!:typing[1]:

ioannisg 09-08-07 09:55

And yes it fits!5.00mm marc on 160-60 17 tire almost kissing the chain but it is ok!YES!!!VERY HAPPY!:041: :icon_biggrin: :icon_tongue: :041:
