Ahh, no need to apologize Tripletom. Now I look forward to seeing the final product.

Today I went and put a deposit on a GS Adventure with a low ratio gearbox.

Karen and I were on our way to work on Tuesday on the Tenere and we decided that there was just not enough room on the bike for a 2 up RTW trip. Sad thing is I do not like Beemers at all but it does not look like Yamaha are making a bigger ADV type bike so I have had to bite the bullet. My wifes comfort is more important than my love of the Tenere.

However........it was nearly 13,000..........bloody hell.....

I dont know wether to keep the tenere or not at this time. Desisions decisions.......

Must've been a tough decision Ray, will you be able to transport the GS on the back of the home as you were planning, or did I remember that wrong?

I think a trailer is more approprite now...but its early days yet. The GS is still being built in Bavaria.

If you are going to BMUU route, is it too late to change your deposit for this: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1235954233

That sure is a nice bike but the real problem is the lack of space for the passenger and I cannot see the F800GS being much different.
If we were young, fit and 10 stone each it may be OK but unfortunately that is not the case.
Another reason is the size of the alternator for heated gear when out on the cold mountain ranges.
Its a bit sad realy as I was looking forward to using the Ten in places that I know the GSA would not go but I deemed it better to go this route rather than have to cut our trip short due to discomfort for the boss. On top of that is the simplicity of the Ten, to balance that out there does seem to be a mass of BMW workshops around the world.
What grates me (and probably the main reason that I previously I shied away from BMW) is that I have always regarded BMW owners as a bit aloof and I did not want to be labelled like that. Its a bit like BMW car drivers if you know what I mean.
No insult intended BMW owners - only my personal feelings, I have just bought one after all.
Oh, and I am not keen on the "horizontally opposed sledge hammers" type engine but there is no other viable alternative IMHO.

Hey Ho.......Ray

Ahh fully understood OGR. I think as long as you are not getting the BMUU matching Rallye suit, you will be ok with this labelling issue :) Regardless, it's a good machine, enjoy your trip and have a good time. If you are not in a hurry for cash, keep the Tenere and then decide what to do with it after you finish the trip. IMHO.
