New ECU - error 54?
Hi Guys,
Apologies if this has been discussed, I did do a check...... I recently brought a new ECU off ebay for my '04 model to help with the surging. It's the ECU 5VK-8591A-00 with the white dot. When fitted the bike won't start and displays error 54. The old ECU works OK. Is it duff or do I need to reset something first? Thanks in advance. |
biaggi,
Best wait until Kev comes online for the true technical answer but i do seem to remember that if you change ECU's you need to make sure that the keys match or come with it and the RED key has the brains in it as well mate. Hope i'm not confusing the issue but if my memory does serve me correctly then did you get keys with it?? WB |
Check this link for recoding keys if you change your ecu.

Just a quick note to remind everyone that Kev has a busy schedule and can only reply "one 2 one" to xt supporters. If the answer is not in our accessible areas of the forum to non subscrivers then Kev can't reply.

You need to recode the keys using your red key, if you renew the ECU.
One thing to watch out for & I have warned the XT forum before, you can't swap over ECU's from bike to bike, you can only install a new ECU. So if that Ebay ECU was ever coded or used to start another bike it can't be fitted to your bike. So you need to make sure that the Ebay ECU is really a new one, if the keys won't code then it was coded to a second bike before you bought it, it will display error code 54. You can buy a brand new 00 ECU with white paint dot from Holland for 66 pounds, I know I just done it a few months back & my bike is running with it right now. For any further help you would need to as in the ASK KEV section, to be fair to the supporters. |
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
